Gotta love that type treatment tho.

Too many gaudy finials, even for a Morrissey record.

Still waiting for Slackmo to delete this thread.

So, I'm only on the first track so I can't speak for the whole album, but thank god at least there's no strings on this first track. If the rest of the album is like this I'll be very happy.

2.15.2013 Toro Y Moi @ Paradise Rock Club: Allston, MA

3.18.2013 Disclosure @ The Sinclair: Cambridge, MA

5.08.2013 James Blake @ House of Blues: Boston, MA

5.10.2013 Shout Out Louds @ Paradise Rock Club: Allston, MA

5.26.2013 Boston Calling Music Festival (The National, Andrew Bird, The Walkmen, Dirty Projectors, Youth Lagoon)

6.12.2013 Postal Service @ Band of America Pavilion: Boston, MA

it pains me to say this, but after a few listens, the lyrics seem very uninspired...

It does seem kind of flat lyrically. There's usually a line you hear ("explosive kegs between my legs") and know it will be referenced in every press item. Not this time. These songs are lightweight, I think designed to be fun to perform. Maybe the poorest of his '00s albums but not bad. Less exciting because "All You Need is Me" is one of the strongest songs but I've already listened to it for a year. The vocal on "Skull" is great.

I don't know, I agree that the lyrics aren't as consistently biting and witty as prime Morrissey but I think this album's saving grace IS those little lines that grab your attention, pretty much every song here has a few... the melodies are great, the vocals are pretty fantastic (especially Today Is Not Your Birthday), and the outro to Throwing My Arms Around Paris is orgasmic. That's such a fantastic little pop song. I'd say this is definitely above Ringleader, and maybe just a bit inferior to Quarry... a few songs like Black Cloud and When I Spoke Last to Carol seem kind of meh.

He should cut a record with El Tigres Del Norte. Play Sabado Gigante. Maybe guest star on that show where all the 40 year olds pretend to be 4th graders with giant tits or whatever.
