Tony Dungy retired and I say good riddance motherfucker! I loathe this man. There is nothing worse than when a jackass is put on some sort of pedestal which they don't deserve This ass is seen as a family man and a religious man etc Here's the thing that bugs me the most. Because of his "faith" he is against Gay Marriage. I was so pissed when the PTI guys didn't call him on this. They are all about Racial equality and tolerance but let this go by. I'm sorry but if there was a time when white couldn't marry blacks and you thought that was wrong you should feel the same for gays. I admit all marriage is STUPID and should be done away with but if we're going to continue with the charade of marriage it should be open to any 2 people stupid enough to want to do it. America land of the free? Some won't see it the same but it should be, If a coach came out and said Blacks and white shouldn't be married they would be crucified and justifiably so. But Gay marriage is wrong becuase I believe in the boo of Fairytales. Who the fuck are you to say asshole?? You coach football how are you the fucking expert. My son is Gay so this shit bothers me. And it might be a low blow but while I am not the best Father I would hope I would know that my son was suicidal and not be so shocked. Especially when I am building my rep as being a "family" man. also any other coach who has failed like him would of been ran out of town Never won with the Tampa Bay Buccs though they should have won 2-3, they won as soon as he LEFT and only 1 with the COLTS who for years were far and away better then anyone. Why did he skate by? cuz he's a nice guy etc ugh By the way I hate the Colts and am glad he failed then but I am a Bucs fan so...

This is probably the strangest post about sports in the board's history. The man went 139-69, therefore he won approximately 2 games for every loss. That's a coach who is well-prepared and good at his job. In terms of sports figures and politics, I could really care less about what they think. Most of these guys are Jesus freaks who think God has a hand in what happens on the field. I don't know him personally, but when I wrote him a letter when I was 10 years old saying I wished he was the Vikings coach instead of Denny Green, I got a team photo back. Tony Dungy is alright with me.

I don't dislike Tony Dungy, but the fact that one of his sons committed suicide tells me there were some issues within the family. Something along the lines of overbearing parents trying to push their values onto their teenage son, I would guess.

How could any NFL head coach have the time to be an overbearing father?

I could care less about their politics in the sense I think they should all shut their fucking mouths but once you decide to make it public I will call them on it. This goes for all people if you want equality and are so happy obama is president great but also know that because of so many black voters turning out and their stupid religious values gay marriage in Cali got over turned I hate hypocrisy more then anything I am for the Death penalty and abortion I am for the right to bear arms but support the waiting period etc also yr pic from Dungy came from their PR dept not him. Also it's all about rings and the fact the Bucs didn't win til he left tells you all. And only 1 with the Colts? while the Pats won 3 with less talent Just like MJ didn't win til Doug Collins was gone

you've lost your mind.

Dungy has opinions just like 100% of the nation. Because his opinions don't match yours, you hate him?
You are more intolerant that you feel he is

On the topic of gay marriage: 70% of minority voters in Cali, voted against it.
Also, targeting christians seems odd as the majority of religions recognize the definition as man/woman.
there are plenty of ignorant people out there that hate homosexuals, but there are also people out there that just didnt want the definition of marriage to change for whatever reason.

"After much thought into this, I have finally come to a conclusion as to why the ‘Meet the Spartans’ commercial is so funny:

It is an interesting choice to have Sanjaya sing ‘I’m not gay,’ as his final words on earth. As he is plummeting into a seemingly bottomless pit, he does not say ‘dear god no,’ ‘I love you mom,’ or even simply ‘argh.’ He instead takes the moment to reaffirm to the world, in spite of their doubts, that he is not a homosexual. Not only that, but he continues to sing, despite falling to his certain death. The distinct lack of plausibility of this situation is what produces giggles from our mouth. It is the antithesis to the belief that ‘it’s funny because it is true.’

Where are your Curt Schilling threads? I don't remember you saying anything about Carl Everett when his thing about dinosaurs came out.

So, you're mad at black people....

I hate hypocrisy more then anything

I am for the Death penalty and abortion

I am for the right to bear arms but support the waiting period

etc

Not really. I hate losing seasons. I'd rather win consistently than have 1 championship and a shitty decade. Basketball is also very different from football. Football uses a single elimination tournament. So as you can see even this year the hottest teams go the furthest.

picking apart your post is too easy

so based on your knowledge of countless playoff appearances and only 1 SuperBowl win, the following coaches are terrible:

  • Bill Cohwer
  • Mike Ditka
  • Barry Switzer
  • John Madden

I'd like to see...WHITE PONY...(jeesuz) offer up an example of a football coach a fella could really, really like, admire and emulate if one knew that coach personally. I'd wager 9 out of every 10 are rather unpleasant in certain aspects of demeanor. That doesn't say spit about whether they're a good coach or not.

Ditka's a horrible human being and a mediocre coach.
Switzer is similar.
Madden was a pretty good coach who had to battle with Shula's Dolphins at their peak, Noll's Steelers at their peak, in addition to some strong divisional foes and strong Cowboys teams in the NFC; plus he retired early in his career and may or may not have gone on to multiple titles had he continued coaching.
Cowher's teams overperformed getting more than expected on a regular basis. His Super Bowl win was a team no one expected to win it all.

I'm not sure where Dungy ranks as a coach, but I certainly wouldn't think he'd be legendary. Probably similar to Marv Levy only probably not quite as successful (despite his one victory).
Sail Away: The Songs of Randy Newman -7.5/10
Dusty Springfield - Dusty in Memphis 8.5/10
Buddy & Julie Miller - Written in Chalk wow, first listen, but great great record! 9.3/10
Justin Townes Earle - Midnight at the Moviessurprisingly great, never picked up his past releases, but this one's knocking my socks off right away, 8.7/10
M. Ward - Hold Time 8.0/10
Neko Case -Middle Cyclone her best I've heard is my initial impression, but too soon to rate, haven't had a really good listen yet 7.8/10

Pretty influential I'd say. I think the reason why the 70s-90s were 'known for great quarterbacks' was because most defenses still thought man-to-man coverage was a better idea than zones. This leads to many mis-matches with slot receivers on linebackers or single safeties, and single DBs on #1 wide outs. I'm not sure if Dungy came up with the Tampa 2, but it's definitely as popular as it is today because of him. Because of this shift to zone coverage, quarterback and wide receiver are exponentially more difficult positions to play. Even if they're not using Cover 2, defenses in a 3-4 rely more heavily on zone coverage. The game is totally different now and Dungy was an influence on that.

Elco per Madden: You forgot Bud Grant's Vikings.

Cowher's teams overperformed getting more than expected on a regular basis. His Super Bowl win was a team no one expected to win it all.

Whoa, whoa, whoa. How can you say that a 149-90-1 record is overperforming? The Steelers didn't overperform in the Cowher area. They stuck to the philosophy that if you dominate on the lines, you'll have winning records over teams with better playmakers. A .621 winning % over 240 games is a good enough sample size to prove that.

i too am a die hard Bears fan

but w/ their erratic QB in 2006 (in addition to other years) i was somewhat prepared for a loss.

I'll take their loss to the Colts over the Patriots any day of the year
