KRISPY KREME CELEBRATES OBAMA WITH PRO-ABORTION DOUGHNUTS Washington, DC (15 January 2009) -
The following is a statement from American Life League president Judie Brown:
"The next time you stare down a conveyor belt of slow-moving, hot, sugary glazed donuts at your local Krispy Kreme, you just might be supporting President-elect Barack Obama's radical support for abortion on demand - including his sweeping promise to sign the Freedom of Choice Act as soon as he steps in the Oval Office, Jan. 20.
"The doughnut giant released the following statement yesterday:
'Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, Inc. (NYSE: KKD) is honoring American's sense of pride and freedom of choice on Inauguration Day, by offering a free doughnut of choice to every customer on this historic day, Jan. 20. By doing so, participating Krispy Kreme stores nationwide are making an oath to tasty goodies -- just another reminder of how oh-so-sweet "free" can be.'
"Just an unfortunate choice of words? For the sake of our Wednesday morning doughnut runs, we hope so. The unfortunate reality of a post Roe v. Wade America is that 'choice' is synonymous with abortion access, and celebration of 'freedom of choice' is a tacit endorsement of abortion rights on demand.
"President-elect Barack Obama promises to be the most virulently pro-abortion president in history. Millions more children will be endangered by his radical abortion agenda.
"Celebrating his inauguration with 'Freedom of Choice' doughnuts - only two days before the anniversary of the Supreme Court decision to decriminalize abortion - is not only extremely tacky, it's disrespectful and insensitive and makes a mockery of a national tragedy.
"A misconstrued concept of 'choice' has killed over 50 million preborn children since Jan. 22, 1973. Does Krispy Kreme really want their free doughnuts to celebrate this 'freedom.'
"As of Thursday morning, communications director Brian Little could not be reached for comment. We challenge Krispy Kreme doughnuts to reaffirm their commitment to true freedom - to the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness - and to separate themselves and their doughnuts from our great American shame.
"American Life League was cofounded in 1979 by Julie Brown. It is the largest grassroots Catholic pro-life organization in the United States and is committed to the protection of all innocent human beings from the moment of creation to natural death."

You'd think that since black people are despised so much by Republicants, they would encourage them to have more abortions, not less. Not the sharpest tools in the shed, obviously.Planned Parenthood is the largest abortion provider in America. 78% of their clinics are in minority communities. Blacks make up 12% of the population, but they have 35% of the abortions. According to the Alan Guttmacher Institute, black women are 3 times more likely than white women to have an abortion. PH -- have you ever heard Margaret Sanger's ( the founder of Planned Parenthood) views on African Americans?

You're right; the Republican party tends to be much more pro-life than the Democrats -- I've seen Dr. Alvida King on TV with another member of the King family who supported the pro-life cause talking about this issue -- what did you think of her statements before the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation?

I work with a couple of hardcore right-wingers. And I have always gone back and used this quote: "Abortions should be safe, legal, and rare."
And everyone always agrees with me, until I mention that the quote was made by Bill Clinton, who had the total number of abortions decrease every year in his terms.
Or, to quote one guy I work with, "Clinton said that? I figured he forced about 300 women a year to have abortions from raping them. And another reason he's terrible..... blah blah blah {WHITE NOISE}"
Safe, legal and rare --- when politicians say that about abortion I don't give them too much credit, I've never heard a politician, no matter how pro-choice they are say: "Abortions should be unsafe, legal, and plentiful" -- it's more revealing to look at their voting record on key abortion legislation, and twice Mr. Clinton used his power to veto legislation that would have made partial birth abortions illegal.
Not all pro-lifers have viewpoint's like your hardcore right-winger's 300 rape statement -- once again, not all of us are on the radical fringe.

That's poetry.Whatever. After 8 years of shit on America's lawn, the country finally planted a tree. It just so happens that the tree is a mighty oak.

Yeah -- well said, By-Tor!That's poetry.Whatever. After 8 years of shit on America's lawn, the country finally planted a tree. It just so happens that the tree is a mighty oak.
George Carlin: Why is it that most of the people who are against abortion are people you wouldn't want to fuck in the first place?

ParticleHustler, I don't think it's only religious zealots who support the pro-life cause.
This has nothing to do with supporting the pro-life cause. This has everything to do with tying it to something as benign and preposterous as a free doughnut giveaway. It's not the message, it's how it is delivered. This is akin to someone painting a wall white and some NAACP-type organization calling it a racist action. Fucking stupid, and not only undermines the credibility of the messenger, but also renders the message less effective (or totally ineffective).

ParticleHustler: You're right, the link of the word "choice" from selling or choosing donuts to the promoting of abortion is a weak link, and it shouldn't have been made, but it did bring into view the topic of abortion.
By-Tor I have to disagree with you, because I do think it matters if you are pro-life or pro-choice -- Yes, the law has been passed, but sometimes laws are changed when they are understood as being unjust laws.-- for example, at one time there was a law that allowed slavery.
PH and any SOMBIES: do you agree with Dr. Alvida Kings link of abortion to slavery (the justification of slavery and abortion is that both were considered less than human), and she stated "fully one forth of the black population of the United States has gone missing because abortion took their lives before they could enjoy liberty or pursue happiness". Does anyone care to comment on her speech to the Congressional Black Caucus?
I hope (and pray) that President Obama becomes one of America's greatest Presidents -- and I hope he will choose to protect the unborn, and help women with unplanned pregnancies -- Dr. Alveda King's statement before the Congressional Black Caucus was very profound -- I think her uncle Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. would be proud of her.

If the second thing starts happening you won't need to worry about the first one.
