"You didn't count on me / when you were counting on your rosary" or whatever would be one of my favorite lines if it came from a good song.
It does so it should be.

Kiss me till I'm in a coma:
Hug me, honey, snuggly bunny;
Love's as good as soma.

The classic rock station here plays Piano Man five fucking times an hour. Or, it did when I listened to it when I was twelve. But you know, these things don't really change.

Lol, Billy Joel.
I don't know how it is in England but Joel's hits are all but unavoidable in the U.S. They're in the air.
This article got the following amusing agreeance on another message board...
" the self-righteous indignation, the contempt, the phoniniess and the crusade over the last 30 years against music journalism (except for Rolling Stone, his old pals) to right what he considers to be a grave wrong: he thinks that he's hated by critics because he's not hip enough, when in reality it's because he's so terrible. He actually thinks that his detractors don't like him because they're not sophisticated enough to understand him. BILLY FUCKING JOEL thinks that there are people out there who aren't sophisticated enough to understand him; and not only are they out there, they're writing for music publications, programming radio stations and otherwise sitting in places of power within the industry and the media and they're doing whatever they can to prejudice the entire world against him. "

I bought five (yep) Billy Joel albums from Amazon for $5 a pop during their holiday sale. He's a second-rate Elton John, but I really like Elton John, so he's fine by me. 1970s pop-rock for the win.
His music has a lot more in common with Paul McCartney than Elton John.

the think the critic is jealous because Billy got to fuck Christie Brinkley. i like Billy Joel, but even i think that he doesn't have enough talent for Christie to overlook his looks.
that being said, Turnstiles is a fucking classic.
The songs are classic. The album itself sounds like it was recorded in a bathroom. Half of the 8 songs sound better on 'Songs in the Attic' which is a great live album. I defy anyone to listen to the version of 'Summer, Highland Falls' on there and claim Joel is a bad songwriter. His various other live albums are not only bad...but unlistenable.

"James" is a killer tune. i think he topped it only with "My Life".
