of course, but it takes a certain level of jadedness and dismissal of the certain style of "generic mainstream rock" to elevate this song to the "worst i've heard in years!" status. it's hooks abound, and that's very obvious. people are using the equation 'silly lyrics + rapper turned rocker + heavy chord rock = terrible' and that's really just unacceptable.

i'm not jaded or exaggerating, sorry if you think that... i honestly do think it's downright unlistenable, and that's not something i say often about music. if it offered something even half way interesting musically i'm sure i could ignore the lyrics and vocals enough, but there's absolutely nothing interesting about the song to me musically. it sounds like a Hoobastank outtake or something with Weezy over top. let's just agree to disagree here, judging from your comment re: basically anyone who listens to Andrew Bird in that other thread, we don't have a lot of shared musical interests.

I don't even know who this lil Wayne guy is (aside from that ubiquitous album cover from last year), but "Prom Queen" is pure shit. People actually listen to this?

I honestly can't decide if I like this or hate this. It's genius in at least that way. It's so fucking terrible, but it's also really generic, but it's also really unique. It's just one giant contradiction and I don't really gain much enjoyment out of listening to it, aside from the entertainment of putting myself through so much pain. This song is an out-of-body experience.

otm.

this song transcends terribleness. it isn't so bad, it's good, it's so bad that it's kind of not bad. still not good.

I've become unbelievably out of touch with American hip hop, and I also live in the whitest part of North America. I just don't have the time to keep up with it.

Weezys attempt to reach out to the Andrew Bird fanbase has ended in failure. :(

What's with the sudden Andrew Bird hate around here? I don't understand this. Dude makes some pleasant, lightly virtuosic music. He's not hurting anyone and I don't think anyone is claiming that Noble Beast is a decade-defining record.

OTM.

hell i don't even like it as much as his past 2 records, but he's harmless. and like you said, musically the dude is no slouch, no matter if you like his music or not.

Solace, do you even know who I am? we have tons of musical overlap. also, my comment about Andrew Bird is basically a reflection of the fact that he has crossover appeal that includes both fans of baroque, wordy indie-pop and upscale adult contemporary fans, the latter being the one's who "don't like music". if you must know, i enjoyed the album the 1.5 times i listen to it and someone bought and gave me the deluxe edition, so i guess i am included in the 25,000 initial sales week.

Seriously guys, if this wasn't Lil Wayne, no one would even be pretending to like this. I understand that it's supposed to be cool in some sort of weird, twisted to way to endorse these kinds of wtf albums (I guess just two songs so far in this case), and I can even see how people could genuinely get enjoyment out of a few songs on 808s even if it weren't Kanye, but this is going too far.

TOO FAR I SAY >:o!!!
