The british press call this music PostPunk:

http://blogs.myspace...t...true&page=4

From what I've heard most of this music is (at best) just recycled 60s folk rock and/or psychedelia played on synthesizers and drum machines. At worst it is Duran Duran, Wham and Culture Club. There are a couple of bands that were able to create more than a one-hit wonder; Jesus and Mary Chain, the Cure, The Smiths, Echo and the Bunnymen...
Can anyone tell me what I'm missing here???

I like this quote from the article:

"I have nothing against the Brits except that they think punk rock started and ended with the Sex Pistols, when in reality Malcolm McLaren fabricated the Sex Pistols in the mold of the New York Dolls (who he briefly managed) and Richard Hell (who he idolized). Punk, as any good Rockist knows, had actually been brewing in the dirty back alleys and seedy flophouses of America's industrial cities since at least the late 60s. So I've never considered the Sex Pistols as anything more than a snotty British rip-off. "

Yes, PiL and Joy Division were recycled psych-rock. What brilliant, blazing insight. Thanks for stopping by.

Yeah, its serious. Take any folk rock or psychedelic rock song from the 60s and perform it with synthesizers and drum machines and then play it to someone who has never heard it before. Then ask them if they can tell any major difference between that song and any other Post brit-Punk New Wave song of the 80s. Their answer will be no. Which means there was really nothing new about Post Brit-Punk New Wave other than the instruments and technology available.

And how is your whining helping anything? Either show me that you are not a mindless sheeple and just ignore the thread, or for christ's sake why not add something half way intelligent to the conversation? Maybe me assuming that you can actually formulate a half-way intelligent response to this topic is giving you too much credit!
