Alice In Chains Lining Up Summer TourApril 12, 2006, 10:45 AM ETJonathan Cohen, N.Y.Alice In Chains has lined up more than two-dozen European dates for its first tour since 1996. The veteran Seattle rock act will return to the road beginning May 26 at the Super Bock Festival in Lisbon and has festival and headlining shows on tap through July 2 in Nijmegen, Holland. As tipped here in February, original members guitarist Jerry Cantrell, bassist Mike Inez and drummer Sean Kinney will be joined in Europe by new vocalist William DuVall. He replaces the late Layne Staley, who died of a drug overdose in 2002.According to Alice In Chains' Web site, DuVall "will not be taking on this key role alone. While we can't name names, let's just say that some European fans are in for some very special treats."It is unknown if DuVall will sing during a planned North American club tour, which will begin May 18. The itinerary for these shows has yet to be announced.Last month, the new incarnation of Alice In Chains performed in Atlantic City, N.J., as part of a VH1 "Decades Rock" episode devoted to Heart. The show will premiere May 5.

Do I go to this?

No. It's going to be expensive, lame, and most likely at the frikkin' Aragon. Maybe the Riv if you're lucky.edit: Don't get me wrong, I likes me some Alice in Chains, but ugh.

This makes as much sense as the Doors tour. Sounds like they're a candidate for that next rock star show. ;)

Much like the Doors, Queen, or INXS, certain things just shouldn't be messed with. Let it die, guys. Or just have Cantrell sing.

this isn't much different than Cantrell's solo tours in '01/02 really... (besides Kinney & Inez, lol), Duvall does a good job, but he's def no Layne obvs.at least they've stated that if they record a new album it will not be under the AIC name, and that they're doing this tour in tribute.i'll go if it's not too much, it won't be the same, but i love Cantrell's voice on the AIC songs he sings on a lot anyway.

saw the real deal in 92 and it was intense. i'd hate to have that tarnished by a new and improved AIC.

I saw them at... Lolla '93, perhaps? Their druggy, hypnotic dirge on record didn't lead me to believe "man, these guys would be awesome live!", but they were.Posted ImageYou can't fuck with the rooster.

As much as I love nearly all of the early 90s Seattle bands...I've always found AIC to be a mixed bag. Sometimes they have their moments, but overall I've never really been a fan.

An opening band last year covered a few AIC songs and I have to say, it was pretty swell hearing those live, even done decently by a bunch of unknowns. I'd go to this show for sure.

Jesus Christ. What is wrong with people? I understand wanting to play the tunes again and getting some of that juice, hell I even understand wanting to get some scratch, but to piss on your legacy like this is just unfathomable and unforgivable.

I love Alice in Chains but I have mixed feelings on this. Layne is what seperated so many other bands from AIC, but Jerry wrote most of the songs. And "Unplugged" is such a great album, and that was mostly Jerry singing, layne was their in person, but not on vocals.

Good point. Maybe Jerry should just become the full-on frontman, and hire someone like Kim Thayil for second guitar duties. Or someone who can play guitar as well as handle harmony vocals.
