I reckon these are 2 of the top 3 comedy actors off all time, the best being Eddie Murphy. Butthese 2 whitevboys did their thing. I just wionder, Bill Murray has been in so many classic films, its unbelievable. Stripes, Caddy Shack, GhostBusters, What About Bob ( my favorite), Ground Hog Day. Peter Sellers, well, he is a legend, Dr Strangelove speaks for itself, not to m,ention the inspector clesau shit which still cracks me up. I reckon they put it down for whit actors everywhere, who do you prefer?

jigga, this is actually worth debating. i'm torn here. murray had much more work that was accessible by the american audience, so i'm sure peter sellers is incredibly underrated on this side of the pond.

Sellers is a brilliant chameleon, but a cipher. Murray is an original wit backed by deep pathos. Murray wins, he's a true movie star. Sellers is impressive, but a bit of a shallow novelty.

My vote's on Murray. His deadpan stylings beat Sellers' slapstick any day.

sellers deadpan from Being There tops nearly all of his slapstick from previous roles. I think he misses out by not having as many roles later in his career, while Murray seems to be enjoying right now.

Too much apples and oranges. Rely on Murray's slow burns and wisecracking, rely on Sellers to completely inhabit his character. Both are excellent in what they do/did, as long as they are/were committed to the material (see Murray's couldn't-give-a-fuck performance in "Ghostbusters II" to see what I mean).

Remarkable that the film roles have gone in the same direction with , as mentioned Sellars gravitating to the dead-pan of Being There in the way we have seen Murray since Groundhog Day. Close call, Sellars was the more talented comic but probably Murray the better actor.

Sellars was the more talented comic

depends on how you're defining comic. Murray came up with his own material. Because of this, I'd say he's a much more talented comedian.

So did Sellers on The Goon Show as well as adding spontaneous dialoge to many of the films he was in.

Sellers came up with his own, you just don't see it much in the US. Check out Down Among the Z Men, Penny Points to Paradise, Let's Go Crazy, or any of the other existing comedies from "the Goon Show" crazies.

They are both in the head of their respective classes. Since Murray is following the Sellar's mold of reinventing a comedic career in its twilight, I rule for Sellars.

aint got to defend eddei murphy, granted he has not had as many classic films as murray or as great a film as being there or dr starnge love, but talent for talent he is the best, just makes bad choices and was a bad stereotype, you know, young black and rich. maybe if he was old black and rich. i heard tarrantinio is doing work with him, i hope so.

That would awesome if QT can work the magic like he did for Travolta, et al.

I reckon these are 2 of the top 3 comedy actors off all time, the best being Eddie Murphy.

There's no way Eddie is in the same league as Sellers or Murray. Chris Rock is more interesting that Murphy. Hell, Bob Sagat is more interesting that Murphy these days. Don't believe me? Watch the Aristocrats.
