Sid, I like More alright. The hippy dippy instrumentals are only occasionally amusing, but all of the "actual songs" are awesome. "Cymbaline" and "Green Is The Colour," in particular. Some seriously pastoral "frolicking through the meadows" late '60s Floyd acoustic beauty.
Probably will never pay any sum of money for a hard copy, though, LOL.
Me, neither - probably. I might go for the used Ummagumma instead next time I shop there. They had a late '70s US Harvest that looked nice. That live disk is toasty, I recall.
I wanna believe in post-Syd Floyd.
Of course.
Ummagumma,
Live At Pompeii, some of
Atom Heart Mother,
Meddle, and
Obscured By Clouds all contain great music. Even
More is an essential piece of the puzzle. Awesome period for them, back when the live shows were all about "Echoes," "Set The Controls For The Heart of the Sun," "Careful With That Axe, Eugene," etc. That stuff is essential art-rock. Maybe may favorite period of Floyd, honestly. The Barrett years are great, but there's only one album and some great singles. The late '60s/early '70s stuff is just super focused while still being fairly out there.
I would say that '69-'72 is the period that truly defined them. After that, they channeled those ideas into much more accessible works, which are fine and all, but this band was moody, dark, heavy, and relied on improvisation. Nothing expresses that better than "One of These Days," "Echoes," and the other major concert staples from that era.
Damo Suzuki: So, um, yeah. Getting older isn't as bad as it sounds. Better than being young & poor (DjDrake) or young & slutty (SG) or young, poor and slutty (Paves); am I right?
Alright, my friends. It's time for another
solid little rock jam
