Zappa - Lumpy Money

Very enjoyable. I never heard this edit of Lumpy Gravy before. Thanks for the recommendation, Sid!

this record is so great... thanks, Bobzilla for the head's up! it's like mish-mash of Caribou, Animal Collective and every little indie pop band that ever existed. i love all the little ear-candy sounds on each track.

That Sin Fang Bous album has become a favorite in year of favorites. 2009 has been off of the hook so far, as the kids might say. Here's another great listen:

Malajube - Labyrinthes
It's poppy, it's proggy. Its timeless sense of melody and effortless assimilation of classic rock influences lured me in from first listen, even though I don't speak French.

I know, right? How are there not more metal albums with butcher-shop-related cover art?

First listen on Music Of My Mind and I love it. Stevie's on top of his game with the melody's here and the playing here is really great. Standouts Tracks:Superwoman,Keep On Running,Love Having You Around.

Second listen on Songs In The Key and I don'r remember it being this preachy. There are some moments on this album that make me cringe with how preachy they are(The schoolkids in "Black Man" being the worst offender here.).Still a really great album and it has quite a few gems on it(Sir Duke,I Wish,Another Star,Pasttime Paradise,Isn't She Lovely,Love's In Need Of Love Today, etc.)

Homemade CD-R, transferred from a buddy's 2-LP set. Amazing harmonica playing here.

Evolution (Grachan Moncur III)

My fourth listen in the last day or so. This is amazing. Recommend to anyone that likes any of the players on the cover, but also Hancock's Maiden Voyage and Empyrean Isles, anything from the Blue Note period Sam Rivers, and Andrew Hill. On that perfect cusp between free jazz and hard bop.

I always feel guilty for not wanting to listen to The Ninth Wave section (though I usually do)... it's interesting and all but not the art-pop perfection I usually crave. Still.
