So yeah, I know I'm pretty far behind in the '75 - '84 decade polls, but it is nonetheless the first of the month, therefore it's time to get started with the next decade. I'll be posting singles results at the quickest pace I can in the meantime, and hopefully without the YSIs I can breeze through the albums poll and be done by the time we should be starting these. Same rules as the other polls. EPs count if they're both under five tracks and 20 minutes. Single discographies can generally be found on Rateyourmusic.com. If it's there it counts, if it's not it probably doesn't.

Some mainstream-pop-type singles to consider:

http://www.youtube.com/v/6befgxM9InI

Erasure - Blue Savannah

http://www.youtube.com/v/vzadkp3fyxg

Janet Jackson - Love Will Never Do (Without You)

^Directed by Herb Ritts, of course. There's really a ton of Janet Jackson singles to consider here. Besides the obvious, here's Escapade.

http://www.youtube.com/v/bkuas587tj0

Ok, next one not for the faint of heart:

http://www.youtube.com/v/Zj4nsWSZKMU

So yeah, this was 1990 when Garth Brooks was just 75% loathsome instead of 100% revolting and also, you know... not bonkers or whatever. I'll be happy to vote for this, though.

http://www.youtube.com/v/eIQQkgjqKvo

U2 - Lemon

That would be from a criminally underrated album, as well.

PS I guess the internet hates me, I wonder why these weren't embedding properly before. Oh well just click the links you lazy bastards.

Some more:

J.J. Fad - Supersonic

Mariah Carey - Emotions

I was actually looking forward to voting for "Always Be My Baby" in this one but it's 1996. I would have sworn it was quite a few years older because I know for sure I must have despised it in 1996.

En Vogue - My Lovin'

I'll also add my sincere love for "Hey Jealousy" here. Its like the only song in the world that can make me feel so happy and miserable at the same time. The "And if you don't expect too much from me, you might not be let down" gets me every time. :(

Anyway.

Here's Sheila E. rocking out. She can do her percussion bits herself. And I just looked it up and this was actually 1984 but I'm posting it here to make up for not voting for it in the last one. Damnit.

a-ha's Take On Me. This should be something of a no brainer, I hope.

Another Erasure single.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WY_8woQ-HEA

This is Alan Jackson's Chatahoochee. I'm actually beginning to suspect that this may be the single best song and or video ever written and or filmed by man but for now this is around my mid 40's or so. I'll forever be indebted to anybody who'll vote for this along with me, lol.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=os_WhPCqEh8

Ok so this is Whitesnake's "Here I Go Again."

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BTHAp2mVvho

Kiss-ass 1988 power-ballad, Roxette's "Listen To Your Heart." Might be limiting myself to one Roxette song here but they were a pretty remarkable singles band, really.

At one point, I almost had "Teenage Riot" at number one because, you know, it's "TEENAGE RIOT." Then I was like, "No. 'Summer Babe' is the first song on the best album ever. How could I possibly not have it at number one? Fuck Sonic Youth. I'll show their shitty asses by merely putting them at number two. Ha, ha! Who do they think they are, Archers of Loaf? HAHAHAHAA!!!!!!"

I'm so glad I don't have to think about this anymore.
