I think I read this weekend that you are to salute when raising / lowering the flag on a flagpole...also, one is expected to raise said flag vigorously / lower slowly.
I usually run it up the flag pole pretty vigorously...

I am proud to be an American. I am proud to support the troops of this country past and present.
I am not proud of the way the power elite has handled the last 25 years though.
I hope for a better day.
