Here's a question I saw at another board. Do you salute? If so how do you feel about those who don't? If you don't how come? Me, I can't remember the last time I did. I haven't been anywhere to salute. Not sure if I would. If someone made a comment about the war I probably wouldn't.

Yeah, sure. Whenever I'm at a ball game or something and the Anthem comes on, I stand up, take off my hat, etc. I like this country, flaws and all, and will always pay respect.

I don't salute, but I do stand and remove my hat.

Nah, just kidding. My teenage rebel days are over. I used to not stand up or anything, but if I'm public or whatever, I'll stand and go through the motions.

I believe that you salute only when in offical uniform. Otherwise, hats off. Hand on heart if you so choose.

but do you support the troops?

have you proved your loyalties by buying at least three car magnets/bumper stickers to attest to your support?

I stand, sure. We have to pledge allegiance to the flag at official meetings where I work, so that's a little weird--most people put their hand on their heart, but that seems phony & archaic so I don't do it. I also just move my lips and don't actually vocalize the 'pledge.' Not because I don't love this country, but because I'm anti-groupthink. I usually don't sing 'take me out to the ballgame' or stand up during the 7th inning stretch, for the same reason.

I think I read this weekend that you are to salute when raising / lowering the flag on a flagpole...also, one is expected to raise said flag vigorously / lower slowly. But, yeah, as far as saluting every flag you see or whatnot..not necessary, I don't think...otherwise every freakin' pickup truck would need to be saluted, and that's just another distracion that would tax today's motorists.

I usually run it up the flag pole pretty vigorously...

I am proud to be an American. I am proud to support the troops of this country past and present. I am not proud of the way the power elite has handled the last 25 years though. I hope for a better day.
