What do you all know about these bands? Have you ever seen them live? Is anyone going? Do I ask a lot of questions? I'm supposed to go out with a guy this week and he mentioned this show. I figured someone here would have some input.

Six Organs is really great, especially the last album and the last track on the new album. Don't know much about the other band though.

Have you ever seen 'em live? I am thinking, from what I've read and what this guy has told me about them, the show could either be really incredible or absolutely horrible.

No I haven't and based on the recorded output I have to completely agree with that assessment. It's either going to be transcendent or boring.

Just getting into this band. They seem to love to have a beautiful acoustic guitar part playing while some dark and scary noise builds in the background. But it's all pretty mellow. And not bad so far. If anyone knows more about this band fill me in. Especially interested in recommended tracks to check out.

Ben Chasny is incredible live. DO NOT MISS THIS SHOW. I've seen him twice and both times he completely blew me away. He's an incredible guitar player that will just blow your mind

Yes

i've seen him 3 times under this name and he has done something completely different each time -
- Fahey-style solo picking
- full band sludge-out (closer to his Comets On Fire work)
- duelling drones with the woman from Magik Markers (partner irl)

So can't offer any meaningful 'what to expect' advice - but it's always worth going.
Show seems to have been in July though.

In only have the 'School of the flower' and 'The sun awakens' lps.
Former is some accoustic folk-riffing with clouds in the distance. Second has the clouds directly overhead. Both are great.
Missed the last one, shelter from the ash (?), but it got mixed reviews round here iirc.

Dark Noontide is my favorite, but it's very very droney. Spirits Abandoned and Khidir are fucking incredible. Lots of raga on that album.

of 2006.

I've never seen this guy live even though I've been a fan for a while. I guess I've kind of cooled off on his stuff (both Six Organs and Comets on Fire) over the years.

I agree that Dark Noontide is probably his best album. Then probably Dust & Chimes which has some samples mixed in for added atmosphere. For Octavio Paz is really good, an instrumental album that really shows off his finger-picking skills, and of his last 3 albums (which all have a fuller, darker, more electric-infused sound) I think The Sun Awakens is probably the best.

For a single track, look for "Only the Sun Knows" off of the (otherwise disposable) album Compathia.

SO, anyone else thinking of going to a show in the distant past?
