Things really get going midway through, especially on "Nineteenhundred" and "(We Watched) The Silver Rain". The latter locks itself into a early Can-style groove, which I'm naturally a sucker for. Overall there's a huge Mastodon meets Shining (Norway not Sweden) feel to the whole album, the kind of ferocious grooves and jazzy/psychedelic passages we expect.
Origo needs another play, but I already think this one is a huge improvement. We can only hope the new Mastodon is as good as this!

Did Torche play longer than 30 mins? Was Boris rocking out, or shoegazey?
Torche got 45 minutes, so not too shabby. Boris started off shoegazey and then started rockin'. I sadly had to leave early on in their set, though....

Well I took some notes on the first 100 pages of this thread and I am hitting up the library bit time. I just picked up around 30 albums today and 15 more are waiting for me. The ones I picked up today are 4 Megadeath albums, but none of their earlier and better releases, my library failed to have those for some reason. Trivium's The Crusade. Two Cradle of Filth albums. Metallica's S&M. Four Queensryche albums including Operation Mindcrime II which came highly recommended from this thread. Mastadon's Blood Mountain. Fear Factory's Transgression. Pantera's The Great Southern Trendkill (I got that one because I like pantera...) Children of Bodom's Blooddrunk. Wolfmother's S/T. Two As I Lay Dying albums (Shadows of Security and An Ocean Between Us.) Three System of a Down albums. And Iron Maiden's Dance of Death, the one where you guys complained about the horrendous album artwork
.
So yeah I have a lot of stuff to listen to know. My library fails to have ANY of the older Maiden albums so I was wondering if you guys might be able to give me a hand, either a place where I could get a lot of them for a cheap price. Or a download...but if the download isn't going to be good quality I would rather just cough up some change for the albums...
Thanks

I scored a press pass for Warped Tour for today...had a lot of fun, much to my surprise. The metal(ish) bands for the most part killed. Especially All That Remains, Every Time I Die (finally got a copy of The Big Dirty), and Protest the Hero. PTH should have been on the main stage instead of those Botch-rip-off frauds Norma Jean. Conversely, Bring Me the Horizon was death metal at its most inept. Those children are in way over their heads.
And did anyone notice just how good Evergreen Terrace has gotten? They were awful when I saw them two years ago, but I spun their 2007 cd last night (after sitting unopened for six months) and was hugely impressed. Their guitarist is such a good clean singer, he renders the lead screamer useless. Live, they're coming along.

Psst...I don't like the new Soulfly at all! Cavalera Conspiracy is so much better. The nu-metal riffery bores me.

Just snuck a peek at the lineup. Are The Vandals still as awesome as they were when I was 16? Did you happen to catch The Human Abstract? Their last album was a bit of a PTH rip-off, but they seem like they have potential.

Yeah, they have chops up the wazoo, just like PTH, very impressive. Their vocalist, though, is horribly inept. These proggy-math bands really need the extra depth a talented vocalist provides, but so few actually deliver.Did you happen to catch The Human Abstract? I don't think The Vandals made it on this leg of the tour. Oh yeah, those Bible thumpers in The Devil Wears Prada were atrocious. Just like their albums.

Norma Jean streamed their whole album on their myspace a couple of days ago and it's fucking terrible. I didn't think they could get worse after Redeemer, but they did. Bring Me the Horizon? You know they're Brit's right? They bring shame upon our isles in all honesty. Everything wrong about metal today is ecompassed within that band IMO.
I think it's time I checked out Evergreen Terrace as well.
Oh, and Every Time I Die are really underrated on this forum. People should check them out since they are a barrel of laughs.

Finally had a chance to start listening to it this morning, I really don't think its too bad. Well, they lyrics are godawful, but do we really expect any different from Max at this point? I really dig some of the more rhythmic moments, but maybe I'm just more tolerant of this because I've been revisiting Slipknot this week and found Iowa and Vol. 3 to be much more tolerable than I remembered them being.

I am partial to Slipknot myself--Iowa in particular.
Yeah, I'm a big fan of the run from "Disasterpiece" through "The Heretic Anthem".
Picked up the new Korpiklaani album today, I'm hyped for some pagan folk metal tonight.

It's a good one. Have you heard the new ones by Tyr and Arkona? Both are excellent.Picked up the new Korpiklaani album today, I'm hyped for some pagan folk metal tonight.

Yngwie's intro on that track is stupid, even by metal shredder standards. Kickin' second half, though.

I did hear one Tyr song that I really liked, but this is pretty much the first time I'm dipping my toes into the world of pagan folk metal.

Yeah, that lackluster vocal performance is pretty much why I only listened to their last album once or twice......
