So, two albums I made it around to listening to finally; The Mirimar Disaster - Volumes Caina - Temporary Antennae Thoughts..... James, TMD has some kick ass riffery throughout, but the album didn't really grab me. I'll give it another shot on a better system, though.... That being said, I don't care much for Mastodon, so I may just not be the target audience... As far as Caina, I really didn't care for Mourner. I hate to say it on this threat, but I just thought the album was dull...... That being said, Temporary Antennae kicks ass! Anyone who hasn't checked it out yet, give it a listen.

Time to update my signature. I've just been informed that the show I'm seeing in a couple of weeks is actually Opeth, High on Fire, Baroness, and Between the Buried and Me.

Swish.

Good news from O'Malley's blog:

CLEAN HANDS GO FOUL

The long lost 4th KHANATE album "Clean Hands Go Foul" will finally emerge later this year. This was recorded directly after the Capture & Release album at Bisi Studio Brooklyn February 2005.

LP Hydra Head December 2008
Picture LP Trust No One December 2008
Japanese papersleeve CD Daymare January 2009
Digipak CD with bonus Capture & Release live DVD Hydra Head February 2009
digital download Hydra Head February 2009

Nice to see the LP coming out before the CD for once. Although, being on Hydra Head, I won't believe it 'til I see it.

It's a good show, I'm telling you... Anyone know whether Genghis Tron ever had an actual drummer? That's what surprised me when I saw them. Still kicked ass.

One of the only NeurIsis-type bands I have any patience for these days, save for Neur and Isis, is Intronaut, who have always struck me as somewhat clever in their approach, far more than, say, recent Cult of Luna or Mouth of the Architect. Almost going in a Cynic/Atheist direction in a way. Anyway, I got their new album Prehistoricisms today, and it's very, very good. Plenty of heavy prog/oriented riffery, of course, but this band's strength has always been the bass playing of Joe Lester, and he's all over the place, going all Tony Choy and whatnot. Best song of the lot is the 16 minute suite "The Reptilian Brain", which goes through five different movements (Sleep/Eat/Shit/Fight/Fuck) that fit seamlessly together.

Swish.

I saw 1/2 of that last night. I got just what I wanted from High on Fire (the main reason I went). I didn't quite know what to expect from Opeth. I saw them MANY years ago at the Eagle's Ballroom in Milwaukee at Metal Fest. At that time I really wasn't into the metal scene but always loved live shows. My buddy was the metal fan. I got to see Venom, Gwar and countless other bands I can't remember, Opeth being one of them and I really don't remember much except that my buddy was completely GEEKED about seeing them. Last night at the HOB the 1st two songs sounded overly stiff for my tastes, too technical without any enjoyment. I cannot say that for the rest of the show. I was thoroughly impressed and would see them again. The Opeth sticker now adorns my bike. The lead guy was pretty cool. Had a lot of funny shit going on.

Yeah, I was a little disappointed to see that they didn't have a drummer.... Light show was cool, though.

Intronaut are a very good band but I'm not getting the NeurIsis reference here. I don't see them as being that type of band at all. To me, they are a bunch guys who got bored of playing straight up death metal and decided to experiment a bit. They don't really adhere to the whole quiet/loud asthetic like Isis and other bands of that ilk do.

But, this album should be very exciting. Very talented band (especially the bassist  ).

So much joy in my heart that Sask and Burzum are giving props to my favorite guitar player going today, Mick Barr. The Krallice record will be in my top 3 - haven't decided whether i'll place it number 1.
