I've put him on ignore because of the frequency and the lack of context when he posts an album. There's no continuity in the discussion, no introduction. It's like seeing a girl and asking her to have sex right away. Rarely works or is worth it, and you just end up looking like a desperate douche. A bit of a "Holy shit, I heard this new album and it's awesome. Reminds me of x y and z. This track in particular is great --> divshare. Anyone want to hear the whole thing?" is necessary.

OTM. Just posting up a bunch of records with no purpose, no context, etc. (and most of them aren't new records anyway) doesn't accomplish anything in terms of discussion. If he wants to do that in his own thread, and you want to follow him there, then fine. But he's really spamming the fuck out of this thread and making it pretty intolerable.

And I believe that newcomers should be given a chance to build a reputation, sure. That isn't done through mindless spamming.

Hah, well you guys are mostly right.. especially when he posted the Grouper album. But still, I guess, theoretically I still think what I said stands, but I suppose in this case it really is just spamming.

Why can't we make it so that boarders who only know how to post links to albums that nobody gives a shit about are only able to view the rolling YSI forums.

It would be great because I never click on those and also know how to use Google and Soulseek.

Damo Suzuki: So, um, yeah. Getting older isn't as bad as it sounds. Better than being young & poor (DjDrake) or young & slutty (SG) or young, poor and slutty (Paves); am I right?

Alright, my friends. It's time for another solid little rock jam

OTM. Those threads don't even exist to me, aside from the time I felt charitable a few months ago and filled some requests. To be fair, it is quite difficult to type in an album name into google, but someone has to do it.

I have finally come to appreciate that Torche Meanderthal record...great stuff, fully accept now that it's basically like Baroness covering Foo Fighters B-sides, and that that's OK...

If they sound like Baroness covering Fo Fighters covering 'Baker Street' and 'Darling Nikki' (their best b-sides), then I'm there.

***

And really, on the heatseeker tip. I'd be up for nobody uploading albums, but not singling people out.

Also: he uploaded the new Napalm Death. Their new songs (that I have heard) are fucking destroying. So fuck you all if you don't care about that.

The songs I've listened to are totally insane. I wasn't expecting something so oppressive (I haven't heard any post-Dorian Napalm Death but I'd heard they'd mostly become a joke..?) and massive.

You heard wrong, B! Man, so wrong.

ND returned to the grind around 1998 with Enemy of the Music Business. So that, The Code is Red... and Smear Campaign are all brutal as fuck. But even before that, they had some fantastic songs. 'Breed to Breathe' - their closest thing to a pop song - is awesome. So gutted they didn't seem to play it when I saw them recently.

In fact, both Harmony Corruption and Utopia Banished are classics, and they're both post-Dorrian. Your sources are weak!

I actually get a kick out of Heetseeker's posts, it's funny, every time I mention a band he produces the leak. It's uncanny. *cough*GODS AND QUEENS*cough*

Seriously, I'm sure the dude means well.

And TS is right, the new Napalm Death absolutely destroys. They're on quite a roll. New Kreator is friggin' unreal as well, I think I like it more than Enemy of God, which I really dug. I have a boatload of 09 releases already (including a potential 09 metal EOY contender which I'm not allowed to divulge quite yet), but I never have any time in December to listen to all of them.

And holy crap, the new Trap Them is a mighty fine way to cap off 08. I loved their one from 07, but this one is better. Kurt Ballou strikes again.

Seeing Lamb of God/The Sword tomorrow, I got the new Opeth dvd, and I interviewed Rob Halford today. So it's shaping up to be a nice metal weekend.

yeah, heatseeker is allright in my book, he did after all post the entire U.S. Maple discography which earns him instant credit. he also very earnestly responds to requests for particular artists and albums, and is quite good at it. these two claims arent completely unrelated, but i'd say - let him be... and that napalm death is truly something.

This could actually be decent. The rest, though, looks pretty darn cringe-inducing.

Austrian Death Machine's "Jingle Bells" is as goofy as expected.

Whoa. Where did this happen? I've had him on ignore for a bit, but that'd be nice to have.

To be clear, my problem with heatseeker is that this thread is the wrong place to post unsolicited links. The discussion here has dried up in the last few months, and that drying up has coincided eerily with heatseeker's constant appearance in it. Makes the continuity of discussion a difficult thing. And just because he's posting something good doesn't make his posts good. If The Beatles reunited at my father's funeral and played "Sgt. Pepper's" front to back while we're saying our lasts, it would still be a terribly improper thing to do.

Anyway, enough of that. This Wetnurse album is kicking my ass.
make it three yards, motherfucker, and we'll have an automobile race

Ha ha. I was kinda on the same page with his ability to track down albums..... I'd be curious to see whose ignore list I'm on, actually. Fuckers :)

On that note, any chance we can track down;

*cough*
Silentist - S/T Tough to find, but worth it. Our local Piano/Thrash heroes. Worth a listen, as you've never heard anything like it. http://www.myspace.com/silentist
Glassjaw - Everything You Ever Wanted to Know about Silence (my favorite Emo/Metal album of all time. Sorta Deftones-y, but not exactly. Paved the way for the likes of Protest the Hero or From a Second Story Window)
Oxbow - An Evil Heat (Their "metal album")
Time of Orchids - Sarcast While (One of the Tzadik metal-ish offerings. Prog nerds will love this. Basically Kayo Dot - Dowsing Anemone With Copper Tongue)
Postman Syndrome - Terraforming (I actually own this album, but I'm lazy and I don't want to bring it in and rip it in order to upload... Hadn't listened to it in years this time around I was blown away by how good it actually is. Probably on of the first true Indie Metal crossover acts. Overall vibe reminds me a bit of Maudlin of the Well meets The Apex Theory <Soundscape>)
*cough*

Speaking of spamming links...... Here are a couple.

Moonchild - I wouldn't say I love this album, but it came out of my art metal phase where I downloaded everything Metal on Tzadik. Features (who else) Mike Patton
http://www.sendspace.com/file/9d5x8o

Time of Orchids - Namesake Caution This is effectively Kayo Dot - Blue Lambency Downward

glassjaw:

new single?: http://rapidshare.co...king_Lennon.m4a

http://rapidshare.co...out_Silence.zip

btw, they used to be a great LI emo/hardcore band back in the day, actually called themselves da glassjaw...
they were part of a strong LIHC scene that included one of my all time favorite bands SILENT MAJORITY...
Taking Back Sunday and several other emo/punk/screamo bands evolved from the same pack in the mid90s.
Glassjaw then started idolizing the DEFTONES, who I saw Glassjaw open for at the ROSELAND in the late 90's..

living in LI was great back then...the (more) amazing V.O.D. were in Merrick, just 2 towns away...tons of great DIY shows.

Very much a UK thing but has anyone been hearing much about Rolo Tomassi? They're this really young band (17-18 y/o I think) who have been listening to a bunch of Genghis Tron. Musically, this band are outrageously talented. But the thing that really makes them stand out is their vocalist. She this adorable little girl who is able to produce some absurdly heavy vocals. Impressive. They have a new album out this year and will probably feature on my end of year list. It's by no means perfect but when this band clicks there are aural delights to be had. Here's the video for their new single.

Glassjaw? "DYI"????

And James, holy shit, looking at the preview image for that YouTube there is absolutely no way in hell that I would guess that girl would be singing Genghis Tron style grindcore! Looks more like she'd be sharing a bill with Laura Marling. I have to watch it.

EDIT: Holy shit. They play like douchebags (i.e. bending over and rocking out at the keyboard = no), but man, those vocals.
