listened to Raise this morning and now i really want to hear what the re-master sounds like... what a horrible sounding mastering/mix. it sounds like a cassette.
Mezcal thread.

i haven't heard these re-issues, but... i can tell you that "Planes Over The Skyline" is one of the best songs they ever wrote, so that makes getting the Mezcal Head re-issue pretty essential (unless you have the Duel CD single that it originally came on).
and...
the re-issue of Ejector Seat doesn't include the best song: "It's All Happening Now". it was removed from the record before release because it swipes a line from Dylan (duh), and Creation had assured the band that it would be OK, as they could get it worked out via their new relationship with Sony, but... alas... it didn't happen.
with that said, ESR (with that missing track... i will upload it when i get a second) is the best Swervedriver album of the bunch, and while the new Swervedriver shows were great, they were nowhere near as good as the first couple of times i saw the band. now, i'll admit, i was awfully lucky: i saw their third show ever in america, at CBGB's with Poster Children opening, so... that's pretty cool. (pretty sure i have the set list for that show somewhere, too).
the new shows: yeah... they played the songs really well, note-for-note, and it was AWESOME. i loved ever second of it.
but those early shows i saw, they absolutely threw themselves into it with complete abandon, and they played those songs like 5 to 8% faster than on record. absolutely breakneck speed on some of those songs. and loud as fuck.
hands down, that CB's show was one of the best i've ever been to, coming up on 20 years later.
if you know anybody that has this:

you can basically watch the back of my 6'5" head in the front row during all the clips from CB's.
i'm famous.

I was really hoping these reissues would be deluxe 2 CD sets with the original album remastered on the first disc, and EVERY b-side, demo, radio session, live track of the period to fill up 80 minutes on the second disc. As I have the first three albums on CD already, I don't feel like buying them again just to get the handful of songs that didn't already show up on Juggernaut Rides.

with Poster Children opening,
I saw this tour at Metro. The night before I did acid and saw The Pixies & My Dad Is Dead at the University of Chicago.
Ah, youth.
