I need to describe the Gold Coast to someone from out of town who is an international traveler--would you say its like LA's Rodeo drive or NYC's Madison Avenue? OR someplace in Paris or London?
no.
and btw, why is this so urgent? 6 question marks in there..

question marks equal urgency???

so if none of those are fair comparisons, then what is a fair comparison? Try and answer this; the gold coast is to chicago what [blank] is to L.A. (or NYC or London, etc.)

Well LA is much more glamorous overall than Chicago. Chicago's the city that works. And New York is jsut more grand--as in large. So in that sense, couldn't the Gold Coast be the Chicago version of that kind of ritzy urban area?I dunno, the Gold Coast is a really nice neighborhood, but there's no way I'd compare it to Rodeo Drive or Madison Avenue. I've lived in Westwood and worked in Beverly Hills, and there's absolutely no comparison...The wealth may be there, but the glamor isn't. Madison Avenue is a different vibe then Rodeo Drive but same deal, I don't picture walking down Madison Avenue thinking "Wow, this reminds me of the Gold Coast."
I think Nomar Garciaparra lived in a building along the Gold Coast when he was here, MAYBE Greg Maddux (and of course, they're both in L.A. now playing for the Dodgers)...and this weekend, I walked by a friend of Oprah's or something, which apparently was a big deal to a friend I was with. [She lives by the Gold Coast, so we were walking through on the way to brunch.]

yes.I worked in the 900 Michigan building for years. One of my former Managers, who was Jewish, once described the Gold Coast as:
"An expensive place for rich old Chicago Jews to come die"![]()
There is some decent shopping if you can afford it, but really, there is nothing all that special about the Goald Coast other than the fact that it's really expensive and alot of the woman have had way to much surgery. I could never live there.
