It's only a matter of time before viewers see consistent commercial content on TiVo and DVR delivery systems.

Don't have/want/need cable...only watch sports and The News Hour with Jim Lehrer (which doesn't really even have ads)...so, I actually tend to watch commercials. In the few hours a week I actually watch TV (viewing peaks during football season, probably some 6-9 hours/week), I like following the rise of up-and-coming actors. In fact, a friend of ours is actually married to this guy. You may remember him from such ads as the Staples "model number lottery", or a recent one for Verizon.

Tivo has ruined me, I'd much rather record the show and flip through the commercials. The American shows have nearly 20 minutes of ads in one hour, which is nearly unbearable.

sure, I watch commercials still. If given the choice I'd usually choose to skip 'em, but I still think they're an integral part of pop culture and I'm glad I'm still forced to watch them occasionally. My new favorites: The "Messing with Bigfoot" ads for Jack Links Beef Jerkey. Hilarious stuff.

If it's an hour long show, I'll try to tune in around 15 minutes into the show so I can zip through the commercials and have the show still end on time

Shows I'm really into, I still watch in real time even though I have a Tivo. However, I've taken to starting bears games around 12:30. Gives me a little extra morning time, and I usually have enough time saved up to get through the half or part of the 3rd quarter.

I have most things timed perfectly. Pause for 18 minutes to get through an average one hour show without commercials. 37 minutes will get you through an entire Bears game without commercials.

I don't have DVR, but I almost always leave the room or flip around to sports or something else until commercials are over. I rarely see them, and when I do, it's for a split-second before I flip past.

I can't pause live sports. I keep thinking, "this has already happened, what's going on now?" and impatiently skip ahead.

A friend of ours amazed us recently by bringing a VCR tape up to a weekend get-away. It was an old Seinfeld episode ("The Gum", I believe) that had recently been referenced, and it was amazing to see how he had edited the commercials out--like, he was actively recording the show (hitting "pause" at the precise moment each time, in and out of the commercial break...I have reason to believe that the hundreds of episodes he has on tape are all recorded with such attention to detail...amazing, to me anyway.

It would be cool to see the commercials that originally aired - sort of a time capsule to go with the episode.

I spent like four years of my life doing this. Trust me, it's not that impressive.

Oh, I agree. Not that I caught that 25th Anniversary re-braodcast of MTV's first day on the air, but things like that I would once again love to see as they originally aired...

We watch a VHS home tape of the '85 Bears Super Bowl every year before that year's Super Bowl and the commercials are half the fun - fast food looked different 20 years ago.

I want to go back and see the hours and hours of ads I was subjected to while watching "CHiP's", or "Dukes Of Hazzard", or "The A-Team", or "Riptide"--any of those shows I used to tune into religiously as a kid. I think advertisers may have stumbled on a new niche here--there seems to be tremendous demand for the advertising of products that no longer exist.

i don't see how it's "stuck in real time" if that's the currency we live in. i don't watch the commercials, but i'm an expert at watching 2-3 programs at the same time, so i don't mind the commercial breaks. there's always a primary, secondary & tertiary channel to switch to. besides, some commercials are good. now that the King is back on the playing field I look forward to BK commercials. Peyton is usually funny despite the overkill you get on him. Man Law commercials are always hit/miss. as a pop culture junkie i feel that i need to see commercials from time to time.
