Have you listened to it?

Dude if Gwen is singing on it there is no chance in hell I'm listening to the remix. I did have the unfortunate displeasure of seeing the video once on MTV and I literally wanted to hurl myself out of the window of my hotel room.

I thought everybody liked "Doo-Wop" more than that. I forgot to vote for it; it would have been pretty high though.

surprised we don't have more LOLers at "The Perfect Drug". Seems like a really weird choice to me. Cool one though.

It's really quite shocking that I could possibly have been the highest voter for a charting Flaming Lips single... mindboggling frankly. I guess I like that song more than Lips fans do.
Sail Away: The Songs of Randy Newman -7.5/10
Dusty Springfield - Dusty in Memphis 8.5/10
Buddy & Julie Miller - Written in Chalk wow, first listen, but great great record! 9.3/10
Justin Townes Earle - Midnight at the Moviessurprisingly great, never picked up his past releases, but this one's knocking my socks off right away, 8.7/10
M. Ward - Hold Time 8.0/10
Neko Case -Middle Cyclone her best I've heard is my initial impression, but too soon to rate, haven't had a really good listen yet 7.8/10

Blur - "The Universal"

absolutely brilliant. i can see the sombie love for this runs deep with the high placing on all-time poll...is this song as highly regarded in the blur canon elsewhere? i honestly don't think i've heard it mentioned in any of the blur articles/conversations i've seen except when i've been yelping about it.

a testament to my love of this list: 90 songs later, my sole objection is t.a.t.u. by this point in 85-94, i had over a dozen.

Blur fans tend to be pretty fond of "The Unviersal" (conventional wisdom cites it, "He Thought of Cars" and "Yuko and Hiro" as the best songs on TGE). I think it's overrated, personally.

"The Universal" is a necessary consideration in the debate over whether music videos inextricably affect one's experience with a song. I first heard the song through the music video, one of the most clever and striking videos ever made, and I feel it's elevated my appreciation for that song immeasurably. Whether I would consider that song a classic without having seen the video isn't clear.
