A moon full of stars and astral cars
And all the things I used to see

Radiohead - "Pyramid Song" / "The Amazing Sounds of Orgy" / "Trans-Atlantic Drawl" / "Kinetic" / "Fast Track"

(963 Points, 11 Votes)

Year
: 2001

US Chart Position: n/a

UK Chart Position: #5

Acclaimed Music Ranking: #8 (year), #51 (decade), #689 (all-time)

Ranked Highest By: Bobzilla, The Eyes and Turd Ferguson (#2) (also ranked #3 by MitchellStirling and #5 by Bob Loblaw)

Can Be Most Easily Found On: Amnesiac

This is the most pleasant surprise of the poll thus far. I never expected to see Pyramid Song make the top 100, let alone #34. One of the most beautiful videos and songs ever. Nicely done SOMBies, especially Bob, Eyes, Turd, and Mitch.

If that had the b-sides from "Knives Out" it would of been my #1. Think they've still got three to come.
Nice bowl of Crunchy Nut you got here, pretty expensive as I recall.

"Tonight Tonight" is so bad and saccharine. So is any rap music left to make it? Maybe an outkast song? As we all know, "The Rat" > all rap music since 1994

fixed

hey bts, note that I'm JOKING here. This is an example of complaining about the lack of agreement in taste and somb. Although frankly, anytime one complains about a song sucking and being voted in, it's an example of complaining that the board's taste fails to agree with one's own.
Sail Away: The Songs of Randy Newman -7.5/10
Dusty Springfield - Dusty in Memphis 8.5/10
Buddy & Julie Miller - Written in Chalk wow, first listen, but great great record! 9.3/10
Justin Townes Earle - Midnight at the Moviessurprisingly great, never picked up his past releases, but this one's knocking my socks off right away, 8.7/10
M. Ward - Hold Time 8.0/10
Neko Case -Middle Cyclone her best I've heard is my initial impression, but too soon to rate, haven't had a really good listen yet 7.8/10

If people wanted to complain about the lack of country they should feel free! Johnny Cash would be a good comparison to Outkast, too.

So, what Metal is left? Is 'The Rat' better than 'Bulls on Parade'/'Stone the Crow'/'Under the Running Board' yadda yadda yadda? Yeah, this game is easy to play. Simple fact is: some genres are not that popular here. Deal.

Bulls on Parade is definitely better than the Rat as well. I think yr defensiveness about me being mad at the lack of rap is funny! Yes, I think this list is short on metal and country too. But I'm not speaking for it cuz i don't listen to it and i didn't vote for it so that would be a weird argument for me to make.

Is that directed to me? I'm not being defensive, man. My point is that it's a bit weird to complain about one's specialist genre not having high-ranking singles on a largely indie/MOR board.

I mean, this is the board for what is called "the world's only rock talk show." Our lists being extremely rock heavy is to be expected. Oh, and I think BOB is still to come, if I'm not mistaken.

I only voted for B.O.B. because the indie kids told me to--that and the big guitar wankfest near the end.

'specialist genre' - dude its not 1984!

And yes 'worlds only rock and roll talk show' yada yada yada - they review rap music on the show, and its not the 'worlds only REM and Blur and indie rock talk show' so no i dont buy that excuse.

I was with you until you used the term "excuse". This is a matter of opinion, and, evidently, the opinions on this board don't favor rap. Why is a justification necessary? That said, I agree that there is not as much rap as their should be, and that "specialist genre" is an unfortunate choice of words.

Well, also, in my opinion, rap was largely predictable and boring for this period with a few exceptions (most of whom I voted for).

Right. I get that. I was just saying that I disagree.

Is Missy Elliott done for? Or can we expect "The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly)"?

'the shitstorm' - no. rap has been great for the last ten years. I'd say its on a downward cycle at the moment, but one that started since the kanye/lil jon simultaneous blowup a couple years ago.
