I went once, it smells bad and a dwarf in a red coat kept following me.

Jigga told you in the first post. The toilets just flush into the Lagoon. It's actually nastiest in summer, and dasmp & chilly in Winter. Go in the Spring or Fall, stick to the museums, and don't eat the shellfish.

Should have stayed home and drank beer instead of going to work today.

Why don't they just flush all the waste into the underground aquifer the neighboring industries drained and has caused massive subsidence, thus solving both problems.

I never thought I'd be backing a jigga thread but this is spot on. Working for a group of Italian brands I can second his view. That's the bad news, the good news is that back on the mainland of Italy there is the City of Verona which is flat out fabulous. As always avoid the touristy side on any Country.

I wasn't terribly impressed. My mom and I went with a school group this summer and had another hour to kill before we left, so we got two cokes and sat at a table in the shade. €20. I'm glad she's not cheap.

Venice is typically... 1. Crowded 2. Hot 3. Smelly 4. Grimey Once is plenty and I say... let it sink. The only redeeming aspect.. a great airport.

I find Naperville to be the most overrated city in the world.

No, it'll be stupid, and we're already doing something stupid.

smart way to do Venice: 1. go in the off-season 2. stay in a slightly less touristy area 3. get good recommendations on restaurants from people who lived there 4. emphasize museums and not shopping 5. don't expect a hot nightlife, the city is famous for not having one 6. make it just one part of a bigger trip to italy which includes Rome, Florence and/or Tuscany, etc. 7. go with someone you are having sex with
