my favourite release from this year. it's very very good.

liked this one a lot on the first listen, but then with time and in retrospect to his other releases it kind of went down a bit. in some parts i get this cartoonish feel from it.

the only album i was able to track down from deej's list of recomendations. not my thing. reminded me of common's "be" but with better rapping and worse/or maybe equal production
indeedAlso I did hear the new Streets album, which I forgot to mention, but that was pretty shit.
a huge letdown

Others that I like that haven't been mentioned:
People Under the Stairs
Juvenile
Young Dro
Jedi Mind Tricks
Suga Free
Pigeon John
Shawnna
I was dissappointed with the Mr. Lif and the Roots.

Grabbing what I can of these.
Has Def Jux put anything worthwhile out this year?
I might be wrong, but I think the only full length they've put out is Mr. Lif's Mo' Mega, which is the least interesting thing I've heard him do. His delivery seems to be completley flattened out into a boring, bored-sounding, nasal monotone, and the beats and lyrics just don't carry it like they have in the past (I love I Phantom and liked the Perceptionists). The political stuff doesn't get much more interesting than "Fuck Bush", which isn't exactly rocket science in 2006, especially when Boots Riley is doing hilarious, sexy political shit like Pick a Bigger Weapon. Expect to see Mo' Mega pencilled in to a lot of year end lists on the basis of the Def Jux name and some of Lif's past work.
There's a good pair of Aesop Rock songs (if you are into Aesop Rock) that came out with a book.

He's one of my favorites and I'd probably be jumping to defend him now if this post wasn't mostly OTM. I haven't listened to Mo' Mega more than 5 or 6 times, either. I haven't been listening to as much hip-hop this year in general since I lost my car CD player, though.I might be wrong, but I think the only full length they've put out is Mr. Lif's Mo' Mega, which is the least interesting thing I've heard him do. El-P has a new album in January, unless it gets pushed back yet again.

Agreed. That Rhymefest album is pretty great.
OK, this rules. Year end top 10 quality shit. Prefer it to either of the Kanye albums.
