Wiki says Mylo's Destroy Rock & Roll came out overseas in 2004.
It was released in the US in February. Eligible?

That sounds sketchy.

edit: And don't forget your comedy albums. Demetri Martin in particular.

I can get behind this, however.

I apologize if I missed it, but what's the cut off for this, Bill? Like others, I'd like to spend more time with some stuff.

Malajube came out in the US last month. Final Fantasy has grown on me nicely, what a kooky little album. Though the artwork creeps me out, I have to keep the CD buried another CD, it's like those stupid eyes follow me. It won't be anywhere near my top 30, but Pallett's Polaris victory was certainly well-deserved.

I have to say, I honestly wasn't all that into Silver. In fact, I wasn't as into the first Jesu record as I really should have been. That album was a strange one, wasn't it? It could have passed as one of those nice little shoegazey doom records, but there was just so much Swans-ish grinding guitar noise! I felt torn between the two sides of the record's sound, you know? If I tried to hear it as some sort of apocalyptic steamroller of death, I was distracted by how sissyish it sounded. And if I tried to hear it as "nice-metal," well, the not so nice elements were kind of off-putting. And as P-fork pointed out in their review, Silver sounds like Jawbreaker. Not that there's anything wrong with Jawbreaker. Eh???

Damo Suzuki: So, um, yeah. Getting older isn't as bad as it sounds. Better than being young & poor (DjDrake) or young & slutty (SG) or young, poor and slutty (Paves); am I right?

Alright, my friends. It's time for another solid little rock jam

I'd like to submit a list for this year, but I have the same problem as last year. There's plenty of records on my "to-do" list that I haven't gotten to and even if I downloaded or bought them all tomorrow, would they really have time to sink in? I've had Ys for a while and I can't think of a day where I was in the mood to hear it. I've probably sat down and listened to the whole thing twice and it didn't blow me away. But Milk-Eyed Mender annoyed me and a year later, I really liked a lot of it. I haven't heard the entire albums put out by Liars and Sunset Rubdown, but I gave them a listen when Iw as at record stores. Do I blame those records for not being immediate enough or do I dismiss them for not sinking their teeth into me? I'm just now catching up to Scott Walker and Swan Lake and I'm checking out the MySpace pages for bands like The Annuals to decide whether or not I want to hear more from them. IT'S TOO MUCH PRESSURE I'M GONNA STAY UP ALL NITE TONIGHT LISTENING TO RECORDS I GOT SOME PILLS TO HELP ME STAY UP LATE I'M SOOOOOO EXCITED...I'M SOOOOOO EXCITED....I'M SO....SCARED
"LETS GET SOME FUCKING ENERGY UP IN THIS BITCH MOTHERFUCKERS! You are not resigned to a fate of slow, painful death. The world is not as Radiohead and Portishead see it. "Oh the suffering! Oh the suffering, I feel the weight of the world and all it's pain" FUCK YOU......Be the grizzly, tear some shit up, rather than tearing yourself up." -- Montana, 12/21/08

Just the cover of the Joanna Newson album makes me want to hate it

Yeah I think it might be the worst cover of the year. That I've seen anyway. Almost frightening.

re: Melted Cheese Do I really have to defend myself to someone with a whole 34 posts??? anyway I heard the whole album on a drive with a friend who never has anything decent to listen to I hated it ok. I give everything a fair chance. How many times have you heard White Pony all the way thru??? if the answer is 0 well those in glass houses... some artists I love who aren't exactly classically trained singers Tom Waits Neutral Milk Hotel (Antony) and the Johnsons Decemberists I don't know if White Pony is the best album of the last 10 years, I know they're not for everyone. Just like Joanna Newsome. But after having 3 fucking Radiohead albums top our poll (I voted for 1 of em) I really can't stomache the idea of Ms Newsome topping our list. I myself am pulling for Band of Horses or the Decemberists, I am not naive enough to think Deftones Saturday Night Wrist will place but I will vote for it.

re: Melted Cheese

Do I really have to defend myself to someone with a whole 34 posts???

anyway I heard the whole album on a drive with a friend who never has anything decent to listen to

I hated it ok. I give everything a fair chance. How many times have you heard White Pony all the way thru??? if the answer is 0 well those in glass houses...

some artists I love who aren't exactly classically trained singers

Tom Waits
Neutral Milk Hotel
(Antony) and the Johnsons
Decemberists

I don't know if White Pony is the best album of the last 10 years, I know they're not for everyone.

Haha. Alright first of all people need to separate themselves from this mentality that "number of posts on this board = value of person's opinion". I mean I've been browsing around here enough (a phat 4 days) to know that there are morons with thousands of posts and interesting opinions coming from noobs and vice versa. And I'm guessing (just guessing) that there are people who have never even posted once on this board who know way more about music than anyone on here... so get over yourself.

Second of all, you clearly have decent taste in music as per the name-dropping of Neutral Milk Hotel, Band of Horses, Tom Waits, Decemberists.. (I still can't figure out if I like Antony and the Johnsons... sometimes I love that album and some days I find it unlistenable).

But you can't grant me one barb at your ranking of White Pony as the top album of 1995-2004? I mean you tell me that my favorite album of 2006 flat-out "sucks", and I don't get to dish out anything in return? Just seems unfair.

Guess I should have looked at your number of posts and backed away slowly with my tail between my legs. Obviously your opinoins are, uh, well... they've been well documented on this board anyway! And for that you should be very proud.

And I wouldn't have said anything about White Pony had I not listened to it... that would make no sense. Actually, when listened to in the right mood, that album is pretty sweet. Definitey among the better examples of hard rock circa late 90s/early aughts. I went through a period where Change (In the House of Flies) was near the top of my playlist for awhile actually, though I won't claim to be a Deftones expert or have become intimately associated with that album in any way... I'm just saying I could ramble off about 100 other albums that have been released in the past 10 years that are like exponentially better/more interesting on a number of levels (um, yes, including all three of those radiohead albums).

I don't really see the connection between the three radiohead albums at the top and Newsom at the top... other than that you seem to dislike both of them for some reason.
