Yeah, I wouldn't hate on M.Ward at all. Liked the album, it's just that it's the kind of album that everyone thinks is quite pleasant that could win over albums people would be more passionate about. That's not to say there aren't people out there who aren't passionate about it, just that it strikes me as a safe pick. And a safe pick I made.
Well cool on the web like Spiderman.

just based on reading the board a lot, I'd actually say people are more passionate about M. Ward than just about any other album this year.
Sail Away: The Songs of Randy Newman -7.5/10
Dusty Springfield - Dusty in Memphis 8.5/10
Buddy & Julie Miller - Written in Chalk wow, first listen, but great great record! 9.3/10
Justin Townes Earle - Midnight at the Moviessurprisingly great, never picked up his past releases, but this one's knocking my socks off right away, 8.7/10
M. Ward - Hold Time 8.0/10
Neko Case -Middle Cyclone her best I've heard is my initial impression, but too soon to rate, haven't had a really good listen yet 7.8/10

In my opinion, "Poison Cup" --> "To Go Home" is the most affecting opening of any album this year. I'm all "passionate" and stuff...

I love those songs. They sound like ELO.

Damo Suzuki: So, um, yeah. Getting older isn't as bad as it sounds. Better than being young & poor (DjDrake) or young & slutty (SG) or young, poor and slutty (Paves); am I right?

Alright, my friends. It's time for another solid little rock jam

I want to say the same about Seam. I only had The Place Is Glacial but loved it, even scored some bootlegs from my tape trading days in '98.

its like a group of nerds just get together to self indulge their self, just like sound opinions message board.

That opening really is amazing. I would argue that "Crane Wife 3" and "Stadiums and Shrines II" are the best opening tracks of the year, though.

it is hard to argue "Stadiums and Shrines" because it is such a great opener, but "Poison Cup" still manages to own it. goddamn that is a great song. I haven't been so in love with an album in such a long time as I am with "Post War." It really is just amazing.

Shut Up I Am Dreaming had the same effect on me. Stadiums and Shrines II really is unmatched.

39 . Hawthorne Heights ~ If Only You Were Lonely
40 . Brand New ~ The Devil and God are Raging Inside Me

Oh man. That placement is all sorts of wonky...

And intentional. ;)

Also, I listened to the Roots and Mammatus albums on holiday. They would easily have made my list. As should Asunder, but my memory is not what it once was.

Yeah, I wish I would've posted my list in time.

I'm doing the write up's for my top five, and as why I love Ys I can only say Joanna's storytelling is what hooked me. With every syllable she spits I only fall in . I mean, how can anyone not fall for lines like these:

That the meteorite is a source of the light
And the meteor's just what we see
And the meteoroid is a stone that's devoid of the fire that propelled it to thee

And the meteorite's just what causes the light
And the meteor's how it's perceived
And the meteoroid's a bone thrown from the void that lies quiet in offering to thee

No Homo.
