Good, diverse list. And yes you need to check out Scritti Politti. Through the errors of cutting and pasting I left that one (and a few others) off of my EOY list. Would have been in the 30s someplace.Interesting List--Surprising Really

That is easily one of the worst lists yet.

pfft.
sasha frere-jones just has a different approach from yours. respect it. he's not a classic rock guy, he barely knows anything about that. but it doesn't matter because he is curious about everything new that's going on and he brings a rare intelligence to his reviews. it's a perfectly valid approach and many people dig his writing.

but they don't enjoy it. many people love frere-jones' take on things. his talent as a critic, if not his taste, is undeniable.

I'm not saying he is a bad writer (I have never digested his material). But I think his list is absolute shit.

more and more, I find myself agreeing with Fidel. weird.why is diversity a DESIRED quality in a list to begin with? Lists can be great whether diverse or genre-specific.
Dusty Springfield - Dusty in Memphis 8.5/10
Buddy & Julie Miller - Written in Chalk wow, first listen, but great great record! 9.3/10
Justin Townes Earle - Midnight at the Moviessurprisingly great, never picked up his past releases, but this one's knocking my socks off right away, 8.7/10
M. Ward - Hold Time 8.0/10
Neko Case -Middle Cyclone her best I've heard is my initial impression, but too soon to rate, haven't had a really good listen yet 7.8/10
