THE SCIENCE OF SLEEP is no where to be found (although their may be Editing and Special Effects awards not listed)..no shock, ..but I hope atleast it gets some credit at the IFP's atleast. It was my film of the year.

I'm a voting member of the Independent Spirit Awards. No dice, man.

However, one of my top 10 movies from 2005, Four Eyed Monsters, got 2 nominations, and one of my favorites from this year Wristcutters: A Love Story also got 2.
Happy Happy.

curious..how did you get that gig?..is it just a matter of getting in contact with them and making a request?..waiting list, etc
For the 2nd year in a row, there are far too many good films lacking on there. The IFP's used to be great, but last year was a letdown..and this year appears to be even worse.
besides THE SCIENCE OF SLEEP, there were a lot of movies I saw in the last 12 months that I felt were very good movies.
THE WORLD'S FASTEST INDIAN
ALPHA DOG
CACHE: THE HIDDEN (this may have been in last year films..why the whole "year" thing is scrued up anyway)
DON'T COME KNOCKING
WRONG SIDE UP
ART SCHOOL CONFIDENTIAL
NICE GUYS
EXPERIMENT
CHANGING TIMES
THE LAKEHOUSE
GAME 6
MY BIG FAT INDEPENDENT MOVIE
UNIDENTIFIED WHITE MALE
ACCEPTED

It's really tough.
You pay for membership.
www.ifp.org
Actually, I didn't separately pay for membership, but my film festival sponsored an IFP/Chicago Event, which comes with a membership.
Keep in mind, this is to vote for the winners. I believe the nominating committee is very small.

Grey's Anatomy over The Sopranos crazier.
As improbably as it may seem,
Season 2 Grey's >>>>> season 6 Sopranos
except for the first couple eps, those were great

has anyone actually seen the pursuit of happyness yet? i've heard it's so much of a downer that the inevitable good feelings at the end aren't enough.

Bobby for best picture? For shame. I felt so embarassed for Emilio Estevez about how trite ridiculous it was.
Strange I was embarassed for him when he married Paula Abdul.

Not that anyone here cares, but Bleak House was a great PBS miniseries...the darkest Dickens adaptation ever. (it's on DVD)
Read all of my stupid song parodies here. Latest song improved/ruined: "Once Again" by Girl Talk.
Listen to my stupid song parodies, recorded a capella via cell phone, at vocalo.org .(search 'agrimorfee')
Read the slowly developing history of classic putative rock band The Anderson Council at my cheap, bland blog
Might as well throw my Last.fm page here, too.

You happen to be right, IMO...but with as few flicks as you've seen this year, can you really be so certain?Worst year for movies in ages.

Call it an educated hunch, then--and I will be only too happy to be proven wrong.

I've got 2 1/2 weeks off starting Monday. Plan on seeing a handful of the major contenders (Little Children, Children of Men, Iwo Jima, The Fountain, and maybe the new DeNiro film)over break. Unless I'm blown away by at least 3, then it will be the worst year for film in a long time. I certainly don't have anything close to a clear favorite at this point and nothing I've seen would finish in my top 5 of last year.

I'm comfy with The Proposition, Brick, and Cache making my top 10 this year, but I don't know what the heck else is going to fill this up.

The Proposition and Brick will be on my list somewhere, even though I had some problems with both. I hope you are able to see United 93, Flags of Our Fathers, The Prestige and Babel before the deadline...and, of course, Idiocracy!

Comedy Update!
I've started to run a show called "The Midwest Comedy Showcase". We go on every Thursday (minus holidays) at The Clearwater Theater in West Dundee. Show starts @ 8. Here is our myspace page...
On Friday, 2/27, I will be performing at The Edge Comedy Club in Chicago (777 N. Green St.) for a showcase which will be seen by Eddie Brill, the comic booker for The Late Show With David Letterman. Show starts at 10:30.

I agree with this. An Inconvenient Truth and Borat are the only two movies I can say I really really enjoyed. Little Miss Sunshine was okay.

But, more than any other movie this year, I think The Departed will stand the test of time. It has tons of replay potential & entertainment value.
