for being the biggest and best band in the world, did this album come out number one anywhere in the world?

It's dominated iTunes and it's #1 in a couple places. But Axl faced some stiff competition. Kanye is not to be messed with. The guy moves albums. Also, the Best Buy decision was pretty strange.

Replace "strange" with "wrong" or "bad" and you've got something a little better.

The album is post-Pitchfork

No, it's eminently pre-Pitchfork, and I don't anticipate music-crit becoming less...pitchforky. I'm not sure rock ever went away, though.

This album is an anthology of horrible and dated studio ideas from 1993-2002

You are right. Axl should have just used loops of the same crap over and over and implemented a down syndrome version of the Beach Boys.

Loops? I want this album to rock. Axl neuters most of what made GNR enjoyable in the first place.

If the pitch correction doesn't make you feel robbed of authenticity by the only person whose authenticity matters on this record, I'm envious of your ability find joy out of it.

Look, iTunes has "stats", so I know you're just making that up. It's currently #8, behind Taylor Swift.

it's a pretty disappointing record. montana's hyperbole and some solid reviews had my hopes up. but the majority of it really is a steaming pile. those ballads are horrendous.

I haven't a note of this, but holy shit, he used pitch correction?! Yes, that just screams a new era of balls to the wall rock!

Spin it again, pay attention to melody.
Every Sunday morning I wake up
I see you by your dresser doing your make-up
Fluttering a Chinese fan in a Knoxville fashion
All last night you tossed and turned
Your body was hotter than the night Richmond burned
You say you had a bad nightmare about tractor trailers crashing

but that's the thing, the melodies really aren't that memorable. the ballads are lumpy and heavy-handed and the rock tunes - some of which are pretty strong - are sometimes scarily industrial, which doesn't suit axl's vocal range at all.

Guns N' Roses' new single, "Chinese Democracy", has topped the general iTunes Music Store chart in Greece, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden and Finland. In addition to being the No. 1 song and No. 1 rock song in the above countries, it's the No. 1 rock song in the iTunes Music Stores in the U.S., Canada, France and the U.K.

I'm nowhere near a Guns N Roses fan but I've listened to this album a few times, and hey, it's somewhat enjoyable! There are some really cringeworthy parts, and the complaints of the ultra-dated circa-1999 fake industrial production are pretty spot-on, but that's just part of this album's appeal. It's a big dumb cheesy rock album with some really, really fine melodies. This is where Axl shines, and has always shone. Melodies. The lyrics on Better are ass. The melody, however, is actually quite impressive. Great song right there.

i guess they both have male vocalists and guitar solos...is that where you connected them?

for starters, the darkness dont use keys/piano, an instrument that is omnipresent on democracy.

let me guess, you think the fresh prince sounds like kanye west, too...
