I love Matmos, but the person I was thinking about taking with me isn’t really into the genre. Seems like a risky choice.it depends on how much you dig conceptual performances vs bawls out rock performances.Matmos question: Would a non-fan be bored to death at a show?
its interesting as hell to watch what they do but yer not gonna leave sweaty & wondering what just happened.

funny way to have a first post, but i've lurked this thread long enough.Matmos question: Would a non-fan be bored to death at a show?
took my gf, who's traditionally into old standards and vocalists, to go see them playing at the local university and she thought it was the coolest thing. it's still not her kind of music, but she had a lot of fun watching it happen, so i'd say yes.
hello to everyone, btw. i wanted my first post to be an upload so i'd be useful from the get go but i've hit a dry patch, and vurt stole the jacaszek hype from me.
also, hi vurt, it's alan.

Hey, man. Good to see you round these parts. The Jacaszek can always use more hype.
From what I've read of Matmos, I think they put on a show that would entertain most people in the middle ground. That said, I doubt my wife would appreciate Matmos live. Her tolerance for techno is very low. I slipped Efdemin, Kalabrese and Pantha du Prince onto the end of a mix of chilled-out stuff I made for her and she flipped out

I love the word denizen.Hi denizens of this thread, I did a thread for Late of The Pier's album, some of you may like it. Check it.
Yay!! It’s a Friday Night
Boo!! I’ve got to go to work
I might not be able to have any fun tonight but hopefully I can fulfill my spiritual duty and spread some love
Been waiting to share this series for while but wanted to get the fourth installment first. As a human you are programmed to appreciate this. I challenge you not to dance:
Kevin Saunderson - History Elevate Vinyl Series Vol. 1-4

Tracklists:
Vol. 1
A Till We Meet Again (Carl Craig Remix)
AA Bassline (Loco Dice Remix)
Vol. 2
A Bassline (Joris Voorn Mix 07)
AA Pump The Move (Samuel L Session Remix)
Vol. 3
A Good Life (Mathew Jonson's Acid Mix)
AA Just Want Another Chance (John Tejada Remix)
Vol. 4
A World Of Deep (Jesse's Respect To Detroit Remix)
AA Good Love (Luciano's Good Love Remix)
http://www.mediafire.com/?ruwlztkwftj
Large-scale historical remix projects are nearly always uneven. With stellar work from Mathew Jonson, Loco Dice, and Carl Craig, however, Kevin Saunderson’s History Elevate series has seen far more hits than misses. With a well-selected and diverse set of remixers and some legitimately classic raw material to work with, History Elevate may go down as the remix series against which all others are judged.
Leading off the latest edition, Jesse Rose’s mix of “World of Deep” pops and locks in all the right places, bouncing on an undulating bass groove and a simple analog riff for what amounts to a classic jacking groove. A great party track in the classic Detroit mold, Jesse’s "Respect to Detroit" mix might be showing a bit too much respect, as it doesn’t show very much deviation from the formula deployed on at least half a dozen Saunderson bangers of the past. That isn’t a criticism per se, but for a remix project like this, you might expect something a bit more distant from the original artist’s signature sound.
On the other hand, Luciano’s take on Inner City’s “Good Love,” is shaping up to be one of the anthems of the summer, living up to (and exceeding) the high bar set by the previous releases in the series. It works Paris Grey’s vocals in layers over a stripped down groove that sizzles along over a lightly acidic one-note riff and chattering Cadenza-style percussion. Neatly summarizing Luciano’s recent turn toward deeper house sounds, “Good Love” fuses Saunderson’s soulful techno with the Chilean School of Minimalism for one of the highlights of 2008 thus far, as well as the History Elevate series. If you haven’t heard it yet this summer, you haven’t been going out enough.

Bruegz, since I trust you and you are usually up with / ahead of the times - what are your opinions on the following records? Are they worth dropping cash on?
JME - Famous? (yes, I have been reading pfork's grime/dubstep column)
Dusk and Blackdown - Margins Music
I’ve only heard Famous? once so far and I was a bit wasted but I've got high hopes for it. There are a few grime albums from this year that I like but don't love (Trim, Scorcher, Ghetto, OG) but this could be the one. We need SPN pop in and drop some 08 grime knowledge on our ignorant asses.
I haven't heard Margins Music yet but I’m eager. Ill have a root.

I also stumbled upon a link for Shed - Shedding the Past. I have no idea what it's like, but I've read a few fairly glowing things elsewhere, so someone might be interested:
