I no longer get my hopes up over Tori. It seems like she has become resigned to being mellow and sucky and irrelevant forever.

Irrelavent? Too much history-making and punkass a life for that. She had one not-so-good last album but up thru Scarlett's Walk she's been on it. I just went through a Tori ressurrection with the Rhino Piano Collection, so this is well-timed. From the pic and title my hopes are high too.

I really liked Strange Little Girls. She really put her own unique stamp on most of the covers.
If the new album is as good as that, I'll be happy.

The Beekeeper just killed me. It confirmed all the fears I had about the direction she was taking with Scarlet's Walk (which was okay in itself, I suppose). Strange Little Girls only had a few really good moments. I would never mean to suggest that Tori is irrlevant when taking her whole career into consideration. But I don't think she has been in her recent work. But...now that I notice that she's holding a bible and that her other hand says "shame" my hope is somewhat restored. sacreligious Tori is the best Tori there is. And yeah, The Piano Box Set was pretty great.

I found Scarlett's Walk too fairy like. I enjoyed The Beekeeper much, much more. I have been saving my pennies to get that piano collection, mainly for the Little Earthquakes versions.

I kinda liked Scarlett's Walk although I've never really got into Tori Amos. It went on a bit long but there were some great songs in there.

Scarlett's Walk was her adult pop/sophisti album but contains some of her best lyrics and compositions. The concept was classic-- traveling through America-- taxicabs and open roads. She's not going to be writing with the same voilatile pen she had when she was 23, but all her skeptiscm re: life is still in there. There's no arena for 90's angst anymore, all these girls; Liz, PJ Harvey are moved on and doing it differently in the same way a Lou Reed says he no longer 'writes teenage lyrics,' sits down and produces an adult record.

I enjoyed the production. 'Fairy' is a Tori cliche, you mean ethereal. All her stuff is ethereal.

"scarlett's walk" was just terrible. and i'm willing to go to bat for "boys for pele". take from that what you will.

Boys for Pele is her greatest. All that harpsichord.

Here's an unreleased track on the box set. She gives all these song descriptors. Something like this one came out of a margarita, never went on album. Can you imagine if she didn't go piano-based rock? This might have been the career.

This is my feeling to a tee. I would actually rank her #1 on my list of artists whose CDs I continue to buy despite the fact that they do nothing but sit on the shelf and collect dust. If I want Tori Amos, I just listen to one of her first two albums and that's it. I'm pretty much over her and won't even listen to this unless there is a compelling reason.

I own all of her (original) albums, that's my point. Pretty much after Boys (which I didn't love exactly, but which is a masterpiece compared to her recent work) I should have stopped buying them because it was a complete waste.

it was just her eyes on a black t-shirt with tori amos written in white underneath the image. One friend used to say that Tori Amos was driving me from the inside on days I wore that shirt.
