ive been on a big roxy music kick lately and then i saw them mentioned in the new cds for 07' thread. so it got me wondering if there were any other fans here? im listening to the bbc sessions now for the first time. damn its a kick ass cd. i just wish bryan ferry would have toned the "goat" vibrato down a bit at times (i deal with it though).

i only start threads when im drunk. im scared of the ridicule you will impose when im sober.

i haven't heard that bbc sessions compilation. i'll have to give it a listen someday.

i must be an odd roxy music fan because i don't particularly like country life as much as everyone else, but this is a seriously great band. and it's not like country life is bad; just that i prefer the first two albums and even avalon over it. i'm trying to stay optimistic about a new album next year.

I love the Roxy Music. Great sax playing. Love their guitar playing. Love is the Drug is one of the greatest songs of all time.

T´ain´t no big thing
To wait for the bell to ring
T´ain´t no big thing
The toll of the bell
Aggravated - spare for days
I troll downtown the red light place
Jump up bubble up - what´s in store
Love is the drug and I need to score
Showing out, showing out, hit and run
Boy meets girl where beat goes on
Stitched up tight, can´t shake free
Love is the drug, got a hook on me
Oh oh catch that buzz
Love is the drug i´m thinking of
Oh oh can´t you see
Love is the drug for me
Late that night I park my car
Stake my place in the singles bar
Face to face, toe to toe
Heart to heart as we hit the floor
Lumber up, limbo down
The locked embrace, the stumble round
I say go, she say yes
Dim the lights, you can guess the rest
Oh oh catch that buzz
Love is the drug i´m thinking of
Oh oh can´t you see
Love is the drug, got a hook in me
Oh oh catch that buzz
Love is the drug i´m thinking of
Oh oh can´t you see
Love is the drug for me

Their new album was orignally slated for 06 but Ferry is perfectionist so it's no surprise that it's delayed. So anxious to hear their first studio work since Avalon!

Avalon is their greatest work to date for me and will never be topped. That is a great album.

love this band. I saw their tour in 2001, it was one of the greatest shows I've ever seen.

I figured as much. Maybe I'll revisit it this weekend. I bought it, listened once, and shelved it forever.

Stranded trivia: this album was not only Don McCleese's* favorite Roxy Music album of all time, but his favorite rock album of all time. (I should note, this assessment was made for some mid-80's "all time greatest rock albums" list he compiled in response to one of Rolling Stones similar lists around that time).

Worth it for Mother Of Pearl alone yet plenty of other wonderful material too. If you enjoy the others from this time period then this should click for you. This was their third release, first without Eno and with Eddie Jobson who'd been in Curved Air.

How about fans-in-waiting? Soon-to-be fans?? I really like everything I've heard from these guys--limitied as it may be (just what's made it to the radio). But a friend of mine recently sat me down and showed me some DVD of theirs...it was live, but it was in-studio, maybe? Eno was there...it f**king rocked.

Those first two LP's with Eno are quite an acquired taste. So ahead of their time. For a novice I'd go Country Life and Avalon then work back from each point.

hmm. I've got two of their dvds, neither had what you've described. One, featured them playing only a few songs in some small european club. The second, their 'Live at the Apollo' dvd, circa 2000. They're both good. I was pleasantly surprised by the latter. Ferry was still in decent voice, hasn't aged as badly as most of his contemporaries (Andrew McKay(sp?), however, went from the most boyish-looking of the band's early days to oldest looking of the bunch. weird.), and the band was complimented extremely well by a few additional players & singers.

Stranded was the first I'd heard of Roxy Music. I picked it up long ago after really liking Here Come The Warm Jets and learning of Eno's involvement of the band. I saw that Stranded came out the same year and bought it looking for more of the same. What I got turned me off at the time and I never picked it back up. (and yes, I soon found out he wasn't on that record).

Later on I heard Country Life and Avalon and liked them fine. I'm anxious to give it a go again this weekend.

Country Life really cool too. Don't like that short little rock number so much, but the rest is great, and that tune is cool too.

Is Roxy Music the most consistent band of all time from album to album?
