Dig Your Own Hole. Came out right when electronic music was becoming more mainstream. Stupid critics like to bash it throwing it in with the rest of the big beat movement, but they're making a mistake. Fuck Crystal Method, fuck the Prodigy, and fuck Fatboy Slim. This album is a classic from start to finish, and until you blast "Elektrobank" on your sound-system I would rather you didn't contest this fact. It isn't just big beat, it isn't just rock and roll, it's psychedelic hardcore dance art. Nobody has put out anything "electronica" that gets even close to being this good in a long time.

Thanks for the link. Stupidly sold this album in middle school and have kinda regretted it ever since. Not like it would have gotten too much play the next few years either, but I do remember this album having some more than solid tracks. Setting Sun especially-- I can't believe something that abrasive(maybe the wrong word, but you catch my drift) actually got a fair amount of MTV play.

Speaking of MTV- and not to hijack, but you know what I miss from around the time this album was out? Amp. Great show right there. I remember my cousin telling me when I was in grade school that "this is the kind of shit that people watch when they do drugs", and then I started watching more and more..

btw, what's the password on that link?

here is an alternate link without the password

none of these links are mine

"Setting Sun" is awesome. Can't forget how great the chemical brothers music videos are. Some real classics:

Here is the famous "Star Guitar" video. Beautiful song synced to images from the window of a train.

Re-listened to this thanks to Vamos- great album. Besides this one, I'm pretty unfamiliar with these guys-- What else is essential?

I would recommend their first record, when they were still the Dust Brothers, Exit Planet Dust. Good record to have on in the background until you suddenly realize you're an idiot for using it a background music and turn it way, way up.

Password for the megaupload file is efac.

I prefer megaupload to rapidshare, so I thought I'd throw that out there for likeminded people.

Eh, both links are 128kbps..

Here's a better quality one:

http://rapidshare.com/files/132677320/TCBDYOH97.rar

The effort is much appreciated though.

So many good memories of this band.

"It Doesn't Matter" doesn't get enough credit. What a massive track.

Can't tell if this is a joke or not.

If it didn't come from Beetlebum I'd think the same thing.

Good record, but for my money Surrender is where it's at. Who posted that "Star Guitat" video? Different album but brilliant song/video my Michel Gondry.

edit: i just looked at it and it has no remixes, it is a live version of Setting Sun that i dug.

however badly they started to crash after 2001, dig your own hole is in my top ten albums of all time. i was twelve when it came out and the OP is right. i was listening to fatboy slim and prodigy and crystal method then too, yet none of them had the staying power that album had. it's so many things and so good at all of it.

though an opinion that isnt nearly as popular, i really do think that surrender was better in some ways, weaker in others, making it about equal to DYOH.

Yeah I'm in the same boat. At age 11 or 12 I used to sit in my room blasting Music for the Jilted Generation, Experience, Better Living Through Chemistry, and so on, but only Dig Your Own Hole, Surrender, and an assortment of the EPs really stuck with me. Surrender is an equal to Dig Your Own Hole I would say. And even Come With Us had some good songs on it. "My Elastic Eye."

Totally, those first three records are all for the most part great. That one car company is running that ad with "Hoops" in it again. And yeah, "My Elastic Eye" is pretty bad ass.

Exit Planet Dust is the only other one you really need. Surrender is OK too. Come With Us has like three-four good songs, one of which is not "Hoops," which I hear in commercials like 20 times a day.
