It wasn't. You can't really use a Q list as the basis for the quality of music out there or else we all would have given up long ago.

Btw, it's October. Too early blah blah blah blah

Kasabian? Maybe they were the ones that gave up.

There's not much on my radar for the next two months, although I haven't listened to half the stuff on Ringo's list. The order of these will probably change a little by the end of the year, but I'm pretty happy with it at this point. Been a great year for sure.

Apparently Mitch didn't learn from his last misadventure in threadtitling.

Had to go with the vague bullshit subtitle instead of an all-caps "this thread is for publication lists, not your personal lists or SOMB EOY voting."

True, the last two years the average intelligence of the board was at a level that didn't need these things spelt out. Good job I can edit thread titles.

So you're saying that my list sucks because there are evidently some other publications out there who cover these albums (I wouldn't know, the only publication I read is p4k, and that's only to check for reviews of albums I've already listened to). Do I have a responsibility to keep track of what the magazines are covering, just for the sake of not listening to that stuff? Am I supposed to be sitting here cataloging p4k reviews to make sure I don't happen to like an album that they also liked? Am I not allowed to listen to what the fuck I want to listen to, regardless of how popular it gets?

Furthermore: Just look at the threads on SOMB. I see Animal Collective, Phoenix, Grizzly Bear and Dirty Projectors threads. Or look at the SOMB year end polls. Last year you, the highly sophisticated and elite S.O.M.B. chose these as your favorite albums of the year:
Portishead - Third
TV On The Radio - Dear Science,
M83 - Saturdays = Youth
Fleet Foxes - Fleet Foxes
Sun Kil Moon - April
Deerhunter - Microcastle / Weird Era Cont.
Cut Copy - In Ghost Colours
Bon Iver - For Emma, Forever Ago
British Sea Power - Do You Like Rock Music?
Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds

Fleet Foxes, TVotR and Bon Iver. I had Shugo Tokumaru, Have A Nice Life, Chris Wood and Helios. And I'm the one who gets bashed for not being obscure enough, or not having enough variety. Not that my choices are entirely unheard of, but compared to Fleet Foxes they are. And yes, I have Grizzly Bear and Animal Collective on my list as well. It's because I like they way they sound. But since a lot of other people happen to like the way they sound, I guess I'm not supposed to give those albums credit on my eoy list.

And actually you know what, I'm pretty damn sure there won't be a single aoty list from a major publication that includes any combination of Hecq, Kormorany, mewithoutYou, Arve Henriksen, IAMX, OOIOO, Black Cock, Nels Cline, Ametsub, Joe Henry, Club of the Sons, etc., etc. Not that I give a shit; I wouldn't mind in the least if my list were identical to p4k's. I don't feel any need to be a shining beacon of musical obscurity or variety. I just don't understand where people get off saying I'm more of a NAIR guy than anyone else.

Explain the situation to me.

We don't need any more Mew YSIs, thankyou.

In regards to the Q list, kudos for a bold and admirable placing of Florence and the Machine, but otherwise it's quite bewildering. Kasabian as AOTY? U2 in the top 10? Pearl Jam and Green Day? And for godsakes, Mika????!!! I mean, come on now. Really.

Few beings have ever been so impregnated, pierced to the core, by the conviction of the absolute futility of human aspiration. The universe is nothing but a furtive arrangement of elementary particles. A figure in transition toward chaos. That is what will finally prevail. The human race will disappear. Other races in turn will appear and disappear. And human actions are as free and as stripped of meaning as the unfettered movements of the elementary particles. Good, evil, morality, sentiments? Pure ‘Victorian fictions.’ All that exists is egotism. Cold, intact, and radiant.

Michel Houellebecq.

"Sometimes, after they'd done the shopping, they would stop, each with his or her cart, in front of a bookstore that carried the paperback edition of his book. His wife would point to it and say: you're still there. Invariably, he would nod and then they would continue browsing the mall stores. Did he know her or didn't he? He knew her, of course he did, it was just that sometimes reality, the same little reality that served to anchor reality, seemed to fade around the edges, as if the passage of time had a porous effect on things, and blurred and made more insubstantial what was itself already, by its very nature, insubstantial and satisfactory and real."

Roberto Bolaño, 2666.

You have got this all wrong, Liffey. It's not your list itself that's the problem. It's the fact that you insist on posting it in virtually every thread.

So this isn't the Rolling End of Year Lists 2009 Thread?

Seriously though, we've been over this a thousand times. I've posted in my list in like, three threads now. Out of over 1000 posts.

It's a Rolling End of Year Lists thread for magazines etc. IDK, Mitchell likes to do these sorts of things. Let him.

and you've posted your list in way more than three threads. I think most of us could recite your top 10 by heart.
