Note to whomever the group is that is picketing outside some restaurant off Winfield Rd/I-88 in Naperville:
You've been out there a couple weeks. I have only seen actual picket signs once, maybe twice, and neither time was anyone holding them. They were stuck in the ground. You have a bunch of dudes sitting in lawn chairs, with coolers, outside of a restaurant. Maybe the restaurant owners did do something bad and they deserve to be picketed. Or maybe, just maybe, you got fired, or not paid, because you're fucking lazy. You're not going to get a lot of sympathy from people driving by if you can't even muster up the energy to put your drink down and hold up your picket sign. You don't look like picketers, you look like tailgaters.
lol
which restaurant?
I think it's called Spats? Maybe? It's by the Atlanta Bread Company.

Ate dinner with some clients at Hugo's Frog Bar last night, right? Ooooooh-eeee, that walleye was nice. No, for real: that walleye was out of this world. I ain't big of fish ordinarily but walleye? I'll take a walleye's lunch money. Slightly better than the fish was me not paying.
Two of my dinner companions were Southerners - one of them explained in detail a hillbilly practice called "frog gigging"? I think it was "gigging" anyway, he'd had a few martinis and was talking Slurbian. Frog "gigging", as I understand it, involves walking into ponds and creeks in the middle of the night & shining a flashlight into a frog's eyes to stun it or paralyze it or something and then you whack it on its frog head with a pronged device to kill it. Bopping frogs on the skull with a stick under the moon. The South will not rise again.

Yeah, really glad you are enjoying the results of SLRJ's brief reign of terror.
But yes, Stefan's writing style resulting in lengthy reviews of albums that most certainly did not deserve them pretty much killed that place for good. As far as "writing about music on the internet" goes for Dan and myself, the SLRJ "album review blog" format is just impossible to go back to at this point.
But holy hell, is there some genius contained within.

On my blog, I posted a paper I wrote freshman year in college about the use of Humbert Humbert as the narrator of his own story in Lolita and how that shapes the narrative. In the tracking tools that wordpress provides, I was able to find out that someone clicked onto that entry after searching for "lolita rape stories."

Sep 29 2008, 12:59 AM
Indeed, tis a bummer if that site is no longer up and running. I'd seen that the latest review was quite a while ago, and was just hoping that it had stopped due to laziness as opposed to whatever else it is that stops a page like that.
Still, many thanks to both of you, Paves and Sausage, and whoever else had a hand in keeping that thing up and running. It certainly made my weekend during those late sleepless hours.

And yeah, laziness is about right. We're just blaming it on Stefan reviewing Vampire Weekend because it's funnier that way.

"Lolita Rape Stories." Um... God bless the internet.
Hey, speaking of that topic - what a darn fantastic book. Movie as well. I was just thinking to myself the other day, while listening to separation sunday,
dude, did he just talk about Lolita? Yeah. He did. I'd never picked that out before.

This is some of the best pop-culture related writing out there, and with the frequency of it's updates coupled with consistently informative and well-written entries, probably the best blog going out there on the internet right now. Very eye-catching and aesthetically pleasing format as well.
