For the first time in 15 years I'll be DJing a bar gig. When: Thanksgiving Eve. One of the craziest bar nights of the year. I'm gonna set up early to avoid the hassle of the impending crowd...around 4pm. Then I'll just play for 10 hours.

Hey gang,
So I rarely ask for anything too substantial out of all of you swell internet people aside from some porno passwords and maybe an album to download, but it's time that Hewletts Daughter asks that you, the fine people of the Sound Opinions Message Board, give back.
You see, I am working with DonorsChoose to raise money for underfunded elementary schools around the Chicagoland area and am looking for any of you swell cats to donate some money. I know that times are tough for a lot of you, financially, but donating even a few bucks will helps these kids get shit they need, like staplers and notebooks and computers so they can then browse the SOMB during their classes. Don't you want to help fund the next generation of internet geeks hear Vampire Weekend and stuff?
To show my support for this cause, I'm required to grow a mustache. Now, if you know me, you know there's nothing I like more than my beard. Having to be beardless for 30 days sucks. And having to have a mustache sucks even more. So clearly this is a big sacrifice I am making here. Clearly..........
So please, click on the link below and please, SOMBies, please donate anything you can. It honestly would be greatly appreciated by me and a whole lot of kids who need things and stuff.
http://www.donorschoose.org/donors/viewCha...e.html?id=19761Sincerely,
Dere
Kps...I'm being totally sincere here, folks. Help out if you can. It would be so great of you and I would high five you for your support.

HD,
i too am in the giving mood this season. I just presented my boss yesterday w/ info w/ the charity i regularly work with" City on a Hill in Milwaukee. Hopefully my firm will make a donation as it is hard times now and people are donating less.
I will donate to your cause, as long as i get a picture of you and me with your silly mustache.

I think so. I think put in a dollar amount you want to give in one of those boxes and then click something and follow instructions. I dunno. I haven't tinkered around with it yet. I probably will tomorrow once my check goes through and I feel like throwing money around frivolously.

The Sea and Cake on NPR. Christ, what a boring outfit they are/were. That's that Archer Prewitt cat, right? All their tunes sound the same - like people clinking tea cups or a toilet paper commercial - inoffensive...like if you drew their music it would have exaggerated eyelashes like a cute cartoon puppy.

Read all the stuff about the three kids that they fished out of Camp Algonquin, which makes it the second fatality thing that they've had happen to them. A while ago, the woman in charge of their high ropes course fell from the course and died upon impact. It's why a lot of camps and things no longer have ropes courses. The insurance premiums shot way up, plus this is one of the people who helped write the book on high-ropes in relation to team-building activities.
About 6 years ago, I was employed by NIU to take teams out on their team-building course. One of the activities involved swinging on a rope (you got maybe 3 feet off the ground) to a platform. There was one girl who didn't want to, but finally got talked into it. She fell from the rope and landed on her back. No biggie (she just had the wind knocked out of her), but she tried to get up too quickly and passed out for a moment. I don't know if I've ever been more scared. She was fine, but whenever I would go back out on that course, I always had the image of her passing out and her eyes rolling into the back of her head.

LAST THURSDAY I SAW THE ACTOR'S THEATRE OF LOUISVILLE'S
opening night of RAISEN IN THE SUN
good show, whatever.
but the important part of the story:
I SAW THE SHOW AND WHO WAS IN THE AUDIENCE? BUT WILL OLDHAM!
saw him walk past me before the show and i thought:
wow he has a will oldham beard.
and then i sat down for the show and my girlfriend's friend goes:
oh look Will Oldham's here tonight.
so no only does she know of him
she KNOWS HIM
he dated her old boss and naturally he's really weird.
didn't talk to him since i was reduced to a little tween seeing the jonas brothers at that point.

I got kicked out of my class last night for what I'm going to claim as keeping it too real (he wouldn't defend his point that Daily Show/Colbert can't be considered "news." I was trying to start an actual conversation to get an answer out of him). Right afterwards I sent an email to my instructor apologizing because I legitimately felt bad because I didn't think I was disrupting class, but I kind of saw that he had a point. So I type up this page and a half email, send it off to him, and feel better and more responsible. Then twelve hours later, this is all he sends back:

Plan on seeing me after class next week.
I guess I didn't keep it real enough.

Think Supreme Court. Joementum is staunchly pro choice and we may need his vote when replacing Stevens and Ginsburg. Joe is a traitor IMHO, but he can be a useful tool. Some nut jobs on the left are willing to obliterate the party to get Joe out (see DU, Kos).

I ran over a turtle today with my car. I was driving, minding my business, when I saw a firetruck in my rearview mirror. I calmly pulled over to the side of the road, and I noticed a turtle. Luckily, I saw it before I hit it and got out of the way. As I waited for the firetruck to pass, I wondered where the turtle was underneath my car. As I pulled away, I heard it explode. Poor bastard.
