Hey andy ant--I live across the street from a pond and the migrating ducks are always landing in my complex's pool by mistake. This won't hurt them will it? The chlorine & all? So far it doesn't appear that we have any nesters.
I blush too easily, as an assertive person, this will be my downfall.

I dont think its the best idea. I know that with chlorine is used in some poultry houses in the chill baths and that is thought to lead to birth defects. I think it can be pretty toxic (and fatal) to little birdies. Call your local veterinarian or DNR to be certain! Ducks sure are cute, huh? Worth a call, I'd say. What kind of ducks? My favorite duck by far is the Wood Duck. If Loons were ducks Id say Loons. My dad used to take me to "Loon Fest" when I was little. I miss those days.
Wood Ducks are so cute and gorgeous. And Loons...nothing beats Kate Hepburn's Loon impression in On Golden Pond. I don't think we have either bird in CA. We do have a drab little thing called a Mud Hen, whose proper name apparently is the American Coot.
And tons of ducks, geese & pelicans fly by all day on their way to/from the ponds (or pools). The ducks in the pool are mallards. They quack a lot, which is also cute.

During the spring when the cover will still over the pool at our apartment, a lot of water had collected on top of it from rain and melted snow. It was almost like a little pond, and I'd often see some ducks in it, pecking at the pool cover for food. I don't know what they eat or what they could have found on it, but they came around a lot.
I took this video a few days after the pool cover was removed this May. Is this mating behavior, or are they reacting to the chlorine in the uncovered pool?
