I like it a lot. I'd tell you what it reminds me of but that's always a dangerous game to play.

We're up to "revision 9" at this point, though the main differences involve the whistling part. I seriously don't know how or where to end it. I guess I could just fade it after the vocal (about 4 minutes in), but I really like how it just goes nowhere - and keeps going.
As for David's vocal, I think if Leonard Cohen sang for a David Lynch film - maybe...

Guess what.
I have a few extra copies of this, the debut LP of the Parka Bruthaz UK, featuring yours truly. Limited edition, beautifully packaged in plain white, adorned with a stylish obi strip - just like the ones you see on those fancy imports.
Some of you may have heard a track or two of ours from the recent SOMB Sounds collections. If you enjoyed what you heard, and have a working turntable, just send me a PM and I'll see if I can send a complimentary copy your way (I will need to know where to send it, of course).
Hurry while supplies last.

just a heads-up:
Copies should be showing up at Permanent and Reckless by the weekend - in special retail packaging. Shooting Stars, too - for you suburban folks. If it's not in stock, please feel free to loudly whine and complain to the management.

Is "The Flood" on this album? I remember that one from the last SOMB sounds, really good song.

Listening to some song that had a Divshare link on this page. Great shit.
If I am in Permanent Records ever and remember to look for a copy of this, I'll totally buy it.

They were talking about "Sheep Eyes"? I'm hearing the Can & Chrome references in that.

Yeah I think that was it. Actually, I heard Can from a few people - for a few different tracks. We weren't trying to sound like anyone deliberately, but it feels good to hear people say stuff like that.
One of the best times I had this year was having this thing cut at Chicago Mastering Service and getting to hang with Jason Ward and Bob Weston - a couple of super cool guys who really know their shit. As weird and fucked-up as it is, the finished product sounds exactly the way I mixed it. Not an easy album to cut, to say the least - but they pulled it off.

I like the vocals on "No Soying." What made the repeating little buzzy sound like a guitar being unplugged?

I didn't know the answer to this, so I passed this along to David, the other Brutha. He responds:
QUOTE
Freddie, The buzz is made the way a real buzz might happen. There's a soft synth making a very low sine wave. It might be two oscillators detuned and beating a little. Then it goes through an effect that has simulated amp-distortion and overdrive. I think i tried 60Hz, but it didn't sound right. The sine is G# on some lower octave.
As I said before, David is definitely the Eno to my Fripp.

Otherwise, I will be happy to make a trip to Permanent to support our local artists.

Sessions for PBUK MkII are underway.
This is a start:
Blood Red Sea - v1.0
The drums need more work and I'd like to shorten it by a minute or so. I'm a bit reluctant to do much more than that - it still sounds clean and has a simplicity to it. These things can get overproduced so quickly.

new and improved, slightly
Blood Red Sea - rev 6
about a half minute shorter... tweaked the mix a bit.

Work continues on PBUKII, after some delays and technical problems.
this is a rough sketch: Doll House
It goes on longer than intended, but I quite like the insanity that takes over the last minute or so. I didn't think this at first but it seems there's a bit of Flowers Of Romance vibe happening with the rhythm section.

really dig this track. don't know how I feel about the synthy bit standing alone there in the middle a couple times, but it definitely sounds great at the end, incorporated into that rock n roll meltdown.

Sid, do you have Caribou (Manitoba) records? this new record of yours reminds me of Up In Flames and Milk Of Human Kindness at times.

Cool. Greg Walks was the first track we started for the LP, and the last to get finished. We built the track without drums, then I was given the task. Problem is, I can't play drums for shit - especially the syncopated toms that David had imagined for this. So we kept putting this one off.
It's a mess, but I like how it stands out after a few more conventional sounding tracks. It's weird even by our standards.
I like the Caribou fellow, pretty sure I have Milk Of Human Kindness somewhere, but it's been a while since I put it on. I guess I can see something there. Maybe I should add "math" to our tags.

Also, if you're still offering free mailings of the prevoius one, where do I sign up?
