Test Icicles split
The trio call it a day
Test Icicles have split up.

The band, who recently denied rumours that they were to call it a day, have finally confirmed they are pulling the plug after cancelling their upcoming ShockWaves NME Awards Show supporting Nine Black Alps at London's Hammersmith Palais on February 24 and their US tour.

A statement from the group said: "The band have just come off a European tour and are exhausted from the constant pressures of touring, subsequently they have cancelled their show at the NME Awards and US tour."

They added: "The band will play their UK tour in April. Details of a final single to be taken from the album to announced. There are currently no plans to make another album or tour beyond this."

Rumours have been circulating for weeks online that the trio would disband following their current touring commitments.

Guitarist Rory Atwell recently tried to deny these claims saying: "We are on a sold-out UK tour then onto sold-out dates in Europe and America with a new single and UK tour in April."

However Atwell did hint that the band had no plans after the summer, adding: "Maybe [we'll do] some festies, after that who knows, depends if anyone's still interested!"

Test Icicles' April UK tour will visit:

Glasgow Garage (April 18)
Sunderland Manor Quay (19)
Manchester Academy 2 (20)
Coventry Coliseum (21)
London Astoria (22)

Meanwhile, the trio will release a limited edition remix single 'Totally Re-f Ked' on March 6.

The single will feature two tracks: 'Boa Vs Python'(Statik Remix feat.Fire Camp) and 'Catch It' (Jitset remix featuring Ruff Sqwad & Statik).

The single will be released on 7" and 12" vinyl and as download only.

Some Girl

Now if we can only get rid of these fucking Arctic Monkeys, it'll be a great week. Overhyped bullshit.

This sounds far more painful than the typical band breakup.
Mr. Sinistro
Damn, I was looking forward to that show. Love the album, in all it's idiocy and insanity. It's been a refreshing earful of tunes since I got it.

How? Past being tired from touring, there's nothing there.

What's with the British? Are they the home to the laziest musicians in the world?

I'm going to miss their outrageous MySpace bulletins.

Here's their final entry:

QUOTE
Hmm, well, I not really sure how to explain this, but I gather from the comments that have been left on our myspace page over the last twenty-four hours that you all know that our ‘group’, band’, ‘project’ or whateveryawannacallit is going to split up.
I’ve just spent the last hour writing a dissertation about what our band is/was/intended-to-be and have twisted my brain inside out trying to explain the chaos, dilemmas and confusion that has engulfed this band in the past 18months, I’m not even sure I understand what has happened to us let alone trying to explain it to someone else.
We started this band in August 2004, our only intention was to have bit of fun, to play a few shows, cause some trouble and to split up shortly afterwards, the fact of the matter is that we played our 5millionth gig the other day after a year of multiple tours and we’re sick, tired and miserable, and to put it simply, it just isn’t fun anymore and hasn’t been for a very long time, so we’ve decided it’s time to find something that does make us happy because unfortunately this isn’t it.

The original plan was to play a UK tour, European Tour and American Tour all in succession, finishing up with our final 5 shows around the UK in April.
I think we always suspected that at some point during this three month period of constant touring that something would go wrong and unfortunately that time came after the final show of our European tour in St. Malo last week, I’m not say who it was who snapped or in what circumstance but it had been a long time coming and I was almost relieved when it actually happened.

I’m really sorry to anyone who was looking forward to seeing us playing at that NME show or catching us on tour in the US, I hope that anyone who bought a ticket manages to get their money back without too much hassle. I would’ve loved to have toured the US, but in our current state of disrepair it was never going to happen and if we did try and make it happen it probably would have led to something much worse happening and the three of us disappearing somewhere near Utah never to be seen again, or something like that, so unfortunately the US tour wasn’t to be. We will however play our final shows in April, that’ll give us some time to sort our heads out and hopefully we can all have a week long ‘fuck the Test Icicles’ party together ? should be a good way to kill us off I think, bring your shovels and we’ll bury Test Icicles once and for all.

Ok, well, I don’t really know what else to say other than thanks to anyone who invested their time, money and effort into this band, i.e. the people who bought our records and came to see us play, I know it probably doesn’t always seem like it, but we do appreciate it.
With a bit of luck the next projects that we undertake, whether they be comic books, Nobel prize winning scientific discoveries or, who knows, maybe just maybe another band, will be better than Test Icicles and you’ll look back and be glad we split up ?

For the time being I’m going to grow a beard, move to the forest and work on my hillbilly-psych-out-jams and we’ll see you in April, clean shaven and ready to fuck some shit up for the last time as Test Icicles!!!!

Take care of your badass-mudda-fuggin-selves, Luurve,

Raaaaaary Decihells/Aggwelt/Atwell

What the fuck is this? http://www.myspace.com/lightspeedchampion

about a gazillion time better than the aborted sixth form joke of a band. Who knew?
Undercooked Sausage
I was hoping I'd never have to see this band's name again.

Huh. I really never thought Test Icicles were bad. They had some cool shit. You can't completely write a band off because of a horrible, horrible name.
Mitchell
So anyway, did anyone check out the page of former member Devonte "Dev" Hynes, who is Lightspeed Champion? It sounds like Sparklehorse or The Dears! Noting like Test-Icicles.
Mitchell
Might as well repeat myself in here.

Lightspeed Champion - Falling Off The Lavender Bridge

Ex Test-Icicles man Devonte "Dev" Hynes's début on Domino. Sounds like The Dears, Sparklehorse and so on. Not like the shitty Test-Icicles.

You SUUUUUUURRRRRE can! Just watch me.

The band name says a lot. They fact that they think this is a clever name makes me think they were trying to appeal to 14 year old boys whose pubes just grew in and still think it's funny EVERY time they fart.

They'd have to be absolutely amazing to overcome such an incredibly stupid name in my mind. They might even have a good song or two, but I'll never know, because I am never going to listen to anything they put out on purpose.

Sorry, that's just where I'm at...

EDIT: Re-reading this I know I sound really harsh. I'm not trying to be a jerk, I just think if I was making a list of the worst band names that would be #1.
Mitchell
I stand by the Lightspeed Champion record as being on of the better releases this month.

Agree. I like it. Reminds me of Mark Eitzel, even if the songwriting isn't as good. Then again, I can count on one hand better songwriters than Eitzel.

Thirded. "Midnight Surprise" is a MUSICAL ODYSSEY. Terrific album.

Not sure how many people have seen this yet (I think it was posted on Stereogum), but here's a video of Dev playing a cover of "Reptilia" with Alex Turner from the Arctics and the bassist from the Rascals at the Lightspeed album launch. Pretty awesome.

I kind of like/dislike it at the same time - has a saddle creek feel to it, that i can't explain for some reason
but interesting nonetheless...
Rad Monkey
Wild guess, but maybe that's because it was recorded at Saddle Creek.
Waterloo
he's playing a free show here in two weeks. i don't know why it's free, but somehow this would probably mean that everybody wants to see him and it'd be impossible to get in...
ignatz mouse
The singer looks so obnoxious that I'm wary about checking the album out. That said, the single isn't terrible.
Rad Monkey
I saw him on never mind the buzzcocks, man did he suck on it. Does he have any stage presence?
