I am not a Spiderman afficionado, so please enlighten me. How can Venom be reflected in Spidey's lens, when Spidey is wearing the symbiote suit? Doesn't the symbiote need to be on someone else for Venom to exist?
And for all the who, what, where, and how regarding the confirmed villians, fights, locales and deaths, check out Aint It Cool. Tons of stuff broke in the last few days . . . I just wish these Spidey movies excited me more. Now that Star Wars, LOTR and The Matrix are over, there just isn't a franchise that will allow me to get my geek on.

What's the problem with Tobey playing Spiderman? I thought the general consensus is that he's the perfect fit for the character; and I'd have to concur. Spiderman was never about hollywood good looks, or having a super buff body; and Tobey's done a nice job of walking that fine line between nerd and superhero.
On a sidenote, anybody care to give a .02 description of the Venom story? I stopped collecting comics during the Secret Wars phase (around '86 or '87), so I know that at some point Spiderman got a black alien suit that could "morph" onto him, and I think I remember that it was like a parasite that fed off of his body, but that's about all I know. Is venom related to the black suit? Does venom have a human alter ego (I'd assume so if Topher Grace has been tapped to play him?

Yup, same suit, different human host. They won't be able to do the story exactly the way it went in the comics, since Reed Richards helped Spider-man get rid of the suit*, which eventually attatched itself to a suicidal newspaper reporter and sought revenge on Spidey.
*I believe that this is a big part of the reason I think the Marvel movies are so uneven quality-wise. It would have been great if they'd been able to set all the films in the same Universe, but exclusive cross-merchandising strategies being what they are, the whole world suffers for the sake of exclusive rights to profitable exploitation.

For those with some interest:
The last time I read this shit (and I read a lot when I did), they introduced Carnage, and after that I heard, there were other 'symbiotes' etc. It got pretty ridiculous. It was like "Dude, this is a popular character, let's manufacture a dozen more like him, only more dangerous and psychotic!"
Unless they went back and changed the story, a common practice even then, what happened was, Spider-Man and a whole bunch of super-heroes were whisked away by some omnipotent being called "The Beyonder" to basically duke it out with a bunch of super villains on some distant planet. This was called 'Secret Wars,' which I won't bother to explain because it was a lame-ass story used to sell comics.
During the 'Secret Wars,' Spider-Man's costume got pretty torn, but he got a tip from other heroes that the Beyonder provided them with a machine that could fix their uniforms. They tell him where the machine is, and Spider-Man thinks he finds it, but isn't sure how to work it. He hits some switches and levers without any guidance and this black globular blob pops out into his hand. Next thing he knows, the blob expands like a living piece of liquid matter, covers him, and transforms into his new costume. Nice new look, produces webs without the aid of webshooters, and impossible to damage. So when Secret Wars is over, the heroes are returned home, but Spider-Man begins to notice something is wrong.
Unknown to him, the costume is alive and when he sleeps at night, it actually takes his body out for a spin (like that Levi's commercial with the jeans controlling the guy who stole them). He knows something's up, just not what exactly, so he goes to Mr. Fantastic who does some tests, and he tells him the suit is alive. The suit then tries to grab Spider-Man, but before it can bond with him, Mr. Fantastic shoots it with some sonic ray gun (BTW, the costume had two weaknesses: intense sound waves and fire).
I forgot what happened after that, I think Mr. Fantastic kept the suit to study it, but sometime in the future, the suit escapes and looks for Spider-Man. He catches up with him while he's swinging around NYC and tries to bond with him, permanently. (It's never clear what mechanism the suit uses to do this, it just 'bonds' with him I guess.) So Spider-Man, in desperation, finds a church belltower, and lucky for him, it's noon or some shit because the bell starts tolling and Spider-Man puts himself right under the bell. He also covers his ears, 'cause really, that's all you need to protect your hearing. The suit breaks apart and peels off him.
Many months later, it's revealed that the suit didn't die, but it was hurt pretty bad. It basically leaked into the church itself, and just out of SHEER COINCIDENCE, Eddie Brock is there, about to commit suicide. Eddie Brock is a rival photographer that Peter Parker got fired because Brock was faking photographs or some unethical shit. Anyway, the suit is desperate for a host, so it bonds with Brock. Unfortunately for Parker, the suit can communicate with its hosts, and it 'tells' Brock everything about Spider-Man. So now Eddie Brock not only knows Peter Parker's secret, he also has his powers as the suit knows how to 'copy' them. Thus, Venom, a guy with Spider-Man's powers, who wants revenge, who knows his secret, and always addresses himself as "we," was born.

Actually, Black costume, white webbing could look cool on the big screen.
Maybe at one point it looks similar to his other costume but later mutates into this...

The alien costume could resemble anything Peter Parker could think of. Unless Raimi thinks this looks better.

that new trailer looks pretty good. From a distance I don't like how the black costume looks, it's detailless like Spider-man is wearing black sweats. I wish they would've stuck with the giant white emblem.
Oh well, I hope the story is at least good and they pull it all together. I hope they don't waste Venom for the last 10 minutes. I smell a cliffhanger into part 4.

I agree with Bhickman - these films are kinda fun but don't really add up to much, really. The first was entertaining, but the second was about as unwatchable as Batman + Robin. I left the theatre in a foaming rage at the loss of 2+ hours of my life that I'll never get back. All those great actors relegated to one-dimensional, underdeveloped and illogical characters that honestly could have been filled just as well by a no-name talent is, IMHO, obscene.

Gosh, it's been a looooooong while since I've gotten hostile with someone on a message board. Seems to take too much effort, really.
How about this: I don't care that you really dig the
Spider Man films. You can watch them from dawn 'til dusk for the rest of your life, if you so desire. You can buy the toys, wear the clothes, even hang around spiderwebs near nuclear power plants in hopes of just one... single... radioactive... bite. Just don't try to convince me to get interested in something I personally find unimpressive, and I won't try to turn you off of something you enjoy. I
know that 90% of the pop culture loved these films, but I'm lookin' fer people who actually share my obviously exclusive opinion. Because they're the ones I wanna invite to my parties - we'll actually have something to talk about without getting violent.
And as for the whole typo thing, allow me to recap for those who are just tuning in:

Irony (
i·ro·ny) noun
The form of an expression in which the use of words is the opposite of the thought in the speaker's mind, thus conveying a meaning that contradicts the literal definition, as when a SOMBie tries to dismiss another's intelligence by calling them "retarded" in the same sentence where they've used a modifier instead of a noun, and then followed it up by calling it a misspelling. "Oen" is a misspelling. And don't eat the yellow snow, either.
