Top Ten Currently Recording Artists/Groups
1-Mogwai: I liked their last album as much as anything they've had out in years.
2-Death Cab For Cutie: I'm not gonna front, I love DCFC
3-Eluvium: This year has been the year of Eluvium for me, what a wonderful discography they/he have/has.
4-Sigur Ros: I think they have an EP out this fall...
5-Rihanna: Man, Rihanna just wrestled that "Purveyor of delicious pop" title away from Beyonce and Kylie without even really sounding like she's trying.
6-Justin Timberlake: Cuz he's always doing something different. Next album's supposed to be a rock album, at which point, he'll probably drop off the list.
7-Aphex Twin: I'm not sure what to make of The Tuss but the fact that he's still confounding listeners brings a smile to my face.
8-Timbaland: Even though he seems to be on every single album released in the past year (JT, Ms Furtado, Rihanna, Omarion), his stuff still sounds great. Also, even though he's in about a million videos, he's still somehow less irritating than Pharrell.
9-Jenny Lewis: I like Rilo Kiley (Who seem to have something in the offing) and I like Lewis' solo stuff.
10-Jimmy Tamborello: That Dntel album was a lot better than I expected, can he deliver on another Postal Service?
Top Ten AWOL Recording Artists/Groups
1-Chris DeBurgh: I presume he's still making music, actually, I just wanted an excuse to say that, after a 3 year search, I finally found a copy of "Man On the Line" and it's SO my favourite album of the 80s.
2-Blake Schwarzenbach: I'd take either a Jawbreaker or Jets To Brazil reunion
3-The Wedding Present: I'd just presume they're on hiatus
4-Elliott: Just because I didn't listen to their last album doesn't mean I didn't like them.
5-Superchunk: I don't count reuniting for touring as back together, I want a goddamned album.
6-The Get Up Kids: Even though I disliked their last couple releases
7-The Anniversary: Even though I detested their second album
8-Grandaddy: Even though...was not keen on...last album
9-Godspeed You Black Emperor!: I've had enough Silver Mount stuff
10-The Dismemberment Plan: Aren't they back together yet?

Fiona Apple has been 3-for-3. Can't deny that.
Scarface hasn't had an album in 5 years, but I can't remember the last time I've been disappointed by him.
I second the Jens Lekman love too. One of my fave songwriters of the moment.
Go Home Productions is one of the premier artists of the decade.
But if you're talking about bulletproof though, Fiona has yet to take a misstep.

I really like the band and I spent a lot of time defending Transatlanticism, but I just can't tolerate Plans. Some of the lyrics on that album make me shudder from sheer embarrassment just thinking about them.

at best, Spencer Krug has the talent to put out a few more good albums. I can't understand what people see in this guy that gets them so hard. He's written some great songs, but 'indie rock's next savior'? Some great songs + an awful voice does not = importance.

sombies is more hipster than when i last left it. in all honesty i dont recognise 99% of the artist y'all metioned. i know beck and flaming lips and white stripes but who is some of these dudes. post their music so i can be enlightened.
PS, if u truly analyze my top 10, its totally unfuckawitable.
Beyonce- Full package. Singer, writer, producer, performer, fashion designer, actress, longetivity, innovation, the modern black Streisand.
Keisha Cole-The Voice
Ghostface-The last lyrical giant thats still relevant in this BS era of "hip hop"( dont roll ur eyez at me)
R. Kelly-THe SongWriter
Usher- The female Beyonce. Sing Justin under a table. lyrically is better that Justin. Better dancer. better songs. Justin cant do anything like Confessions 1 and 2.
Kanye West- All Eyez on Him. When Dero and Greg is stanning you ,you know you got everyone watching you. in the tradition of eminem, Pac, Ice Cube, all eyez is on the at all times, from the hood to the student dorm to the festivals to the critics. i aint saying is solid classics but he delivering under the pressure and is exposing a lot of governmment secrets in his "outbursts". why jon brion back again, i aint hating but to me take it or leave it with his contributions.
Rufus Wainright- a good singer that dont compare with the black greats but is still intersting
Arcade Fire-the best canadian whites
Wilco- the best of the soft rock whites. i think they struggle with deep material and i dont buy their agenda like you lot but i guess its the best elevator music going
Sigour ROus-i like one song one time

Meg is good at what she does. she provides simple beats for Jack to kick ass over. Yes, she is not a brilliant drummer, but she is not trying to be brilliant. Thta said, Jack White is one of this decades best talents, amazing guitarist, songwriter, singer.
My nomination (based purely on musical ability) goes to BATTLES! Those dudes just amaze me.
Honorary mention goes to Wilco. Well really, any band that has Nels Cline and Glen Kotche in the same band is pretty much stellar.
