Is there a bad track on this album, how hard was picking the best track? I could have picked any of five tracks.

Picking my favorite track was murder.
This was one of three albums in rotation at the first co-ed party I ever attended, in 7th grade, I think. The other two were My Aim Is True and Are We Not Men?, and I pretty much had my spongy mind blown.
But yeah, I had completely forgotten how good this was. One of the vinyl stalwarts I have yet to replace.

Would the person who gave it a zero care to elaborate, or are we to just assume you are a fucking tit?

In high school we used to get fried in my friends basement, Blondie was often the soundtrack. I picked Sunday Girl. Always had a soft spot for that one.

I don't know whether I would have been more interested in the girls or the music.

Heart of Glass I never need to hear again, no matter how great it is, because in college it got played at every non-rap music party i went to. It'd be like having to hear "Hey Ya" again.
but uhh yeah "Hanging on the Telephone" is best to me.

this was a close call between "hanging on the telephone" and "11:59" for me, but the cover prevailed.

I'm going with "Hanging on the Telephone" simply because it's the first track on the album and I remember buying this and putting it on and being blown away by it immediately. But didn't someone else do this song originally?

doesn't matter how overplayed "heart of glass" was, it's by far the best.

I went with Fade away & Radiate as my favorite, gave it a 9, but it's closer to a 9.8 for me. Brilliant record from an underrated band.

yes, the nerves. i believe that they played a show together and blondie liked the song so much that they wanted to play it themselves.

The only Blondie album I like, but it's pretty great. "Hanging on the Telephone" wins best song for me, but the "da da da......dada-dadadada....da da da...." bit of "Heart of Glass" still makes me smile.

The Nerves original of Hanging on the Telephone is so much better. No that the Blondie one isn't great, but the Nerves one is, like, my favorite song ever. So much more urgency. Which is why I have to go with Heart of Glass.

Sweet Jesus this is a great album.
I voted for "Sunday Girl", but I now wish I had cast mine for "Hangin' on the Telephone". One of my favorite opening tracks to any album.

Yeah, seriously! Those lines aren't even parallel.
I actually don't know this album outside of a song or two. I was thinking about picking up this reissue, but I may try to find a cheaper, older version. I never watch DVDs that are included in these things, and I certainly don't want to pay extra for them. At least it's not a DualDisc.

Reactions.
Mitchell: Which five did you have to pick from? I had the same dilemma. I went with "Sunday Girl", which would't have been true even ten years ago, but there's something in its poppy, sunny ebullience that stays with me. Better melody, maybe? I'll be humming it the rest of today.
Paul: Music, no contest. You don't have to socialize with a record. It will always be your friend.
'Mo: Jealous you had access to friends with taste that good - I had to hear way too much Boston and Rush when I was that age.
Problem with cover art: There's no way for it to be good, simply because it's what we're all accustomed to. Could have been the original was awful beyond blief - every one of us would still prefer the known to something new. So why even bother?
UselessRocker: The only one, huh? Seriously? Auto American is a pretty great record. As are Plastic Letters and Eat to the Beat. Less said abut The Hunter, the better.
Debbie Harry is still mad at Lester Bangs for his book about them. A real testament to the power of the word, and to never reaching adulthood.

Yeah,
Parallel Lines is the one Blondie record I like. I just never liked Blondie much. I don't hate them the way I do Sublime or anything like that. It was an ongoing debate with an old friend. Her argument was that Blondie was the best band of that era and that Debbie Harry was the greatest woman in pop/rock history and my position was "I really like Talking Heads etc a million times better and I'll take a lot of the '90s riot grrls over Debbie etc". But she'd put PL on and I'd always be like "Well, "Hanging on the Telephone" IS awesome." I was actually really disappointed when I found out it was a cover. That song was the thing that kept Blondie afloat for me. I could needle my friend and tell her Debbie Harry is "overrated" but HOTT would start up and I'd be like "Ok, you're right, she's awesome". But anyway, it's a good cover and there are plenty of other good songs on the album.

got this album over the weekend. it's pretty damn solid front to back but there's no doubt the singles are the strongest tracks.

Probably
Hanging On The Telephone, One Way Or Another, 11:59, Heart Of Glass or Just Go Away. This is an old thread though so it may have been different at the time.
