That's Aziz Ansari, he's hilarious. Great comedian who is totally into music.

The guy with the hat is a writer for Conan. He's on the show all the time. Don't know his name.

oh god. i'm an indie asshole. i'm indieriffic.
DrJimmy
by the way, there are a couple clerks at that store, Other Music, who are definitely aloof motherfuckers (and a couple of them are very nice)

but they're all a bunch of Animal Collective-worshippers.
Cinnamon P.
just joshing. I've met every one of those people. hell I used to be one of those people.

I dont try to show off "indie cred" or anything but I really cant stand one spesific girl I knew from high school making sure she tells me about the new upcomming band. she tried that with the killers (I roundhouse kicked her teeth out) and when garden state came out on dvd. I was like..."Im the one who told you to see that movie 6 months ago"

good date movie. and you may now start throwing your stones
Hips
that was indietastic!
Ben
I was not all that amused.

Now this guy and his baby voice, oh man, this is comedy.

Be sure to try "Debaser."

Come on now. Wouldn't a REAL indie asshole slap one FOR reading pitchfork and/or listening to Sufjan? Backlash, bitch.

An indie asshole would be all: "Fuck, I don't go by what Pitchfork says". But an indie asshole would also roll his eyes at someone who had never even heard of PF. But yeah, the clerks shouldn't be so excited to talk about Carlos D. Interpol's too big for indie assholes.

Anybody have a link for this that isn't Google? Google video doesn't work outside of the US.
The Good Dr Bill
these things are always too broad and get the details totally wrong. Like other people mentioned, no way would OM clerks preach the gospel of PFM at this point (maybe something a tier or two below it like Dusted or CMG), they would never give a shit about the Arctic Monkeys and they certainly would consider themselves stories above people like Carlos D.

not to mention the fact that when I've been there, the OM people have always been friendly and helpful (or civilized, at the least).
Ben
I think this is officially the backlash to indie backlash. If this holds, Damo's going to start posting again soon. I can feel it.

yeah, I've got way more animosity towards that place than OM.

This video is confusing. Most of the music jokes are falling flat for me. And the "indie clerk asshole" stereotype doesn't really seem to have any connection to reality. That doesn't mean that it should now be off limits in comedy or anything, but we've been there too many times before for this to seem very clever in 2006.

The part where the guy starts speaking Japanese was pretty funny, though. Other than that I really think we could make a better video than this.
_______
the japanese bit was the funniest part... agreed.

Still, anyone who buys the Garden State soundtrack or uses the word "indie-tastic" ought to be shot. AM I RIGHT FOLKS?

Have you ever tried to sell used cds there? I brought a stack of review copies, and the guy only looked at two before smirking and telling me he couldn't use them. I mean, there was some crap in there but it wasn't all crap. At least Norman's was right around the corner.

I agree. This could have been much better. I hope these jokes were straight improv, cuz they were pretty weak if scripted.

I doubt anyone has ever actually said anything like that out loud without being 100% sarcastic. Maybe shit like that has been written in bad reviews before but again, I don't see that line having anything to do with people in real life.

Better line: "Do you guys have the Garden State soundtrack? I didn't know if you would or not... it's kind of an inn-die thing."
Ben
Undo is king.

This whole line of comedy did sort of peak years ago with High Fidelty (crap!) and that Onion article about all the record store clerks dying at a Yo La Tengo concert (great!).

I watched it OK. huh.gif

why do you people put up with this treatment when you are the CUSTOMER?

I'm lucky to live in a small city I guess but the one time I was given attitude at Rasputin in the Bay I picked up the 4 cds I was going to buy off the counter and chucked them at the guy who had smirked at me. fuck him and fuck them.

suprisingly the lil indie bitch had no interest in meeting me outside to talk about it away from the safe confines of his lil store.

Now that I'm older I don't care what any lil punk thinks of me when I'm at a store but If I was a younger person dealing with that shit I'd be glad Bestbuy will be carrying indie music and I'd be able to purchase it without being looked down on by a bearded fat 30-something that can't get laid
The Luscious Phil
I dont think i have ever gotten whole lot of attitude from Indie clerks. the worst might have been Atomic Records in Milwaukee, i think they smirked cuz i bought D-Plan is terrified. but i was thirteen and could care less.
But i had nothing but great service from Rasputin's (they even were all excited that I was buying Akron/Family) and Ameoba.
and the dudes in Dr. Wax - Evanston are real nice if you go there a bunch.
avec

You people actually get shit from record store clerks? Usually they are too smug to even say anything to me. If I think they're dicks I just tune these people out like the crap music they blare on the speakers. They are just there to ring up your purchases, not validate them.
DrJimmy
i agree that they got the details wrong (probably to broaden the audience), but i still say those guys are funny.

and it's true that there are nice guys at OM, but there's at least one guy there (bearded, Jesus-looking guy) who is an aloof motherfucker.

Also, I think whoever called it "indie clerk assholes" set up some slightly false expectations. The piece is just called "Other Music."

Pretty good stuff.

Ben, Tapes 'N Tapes haven't reached the nation's capitol yet? They're a band from the Twin Cities...hype machine has caught 'em up and is currently taking them for a wild ride. They're no Hockey Night, but...whatever.

good! i'm set for the day! :-D

that was prrrretty funny.
he's a good man.
Pavement Ist Rad
I laughed at the Devendra part, but that was all.

"i've got gold records on my walls"? funny stuff right there.

the child arsonist part was pretty funny the first time, but then they just had to go back to it.
Wolfgang
His outro for the T n T set was pretty funny too.
"Tapes n' Tapes motherfuckers!!!!! If I read one bad review I'm gonna kill you all. What the fuck did you just say?" [jumps off the stage into the crowd like he was about to punish someone].
