I dont try to show off "indie cred" or anything but I really cant stand one spesific girl I knew from high school making sure she tells me about the new upcomming band. she tried that with the killers (I roundhouse kicked her teeth out) and when garden state came out on dvd. I was like..."Im the one who told you to see that movie 6 months ago"

An indie asshole would be all: "Fuck, I don't go by what Pitchfork says". But an indie asshole would also roll his eyes at someone who had never even heard of PF. But yeah, the clerks shouldn't be so excited to talk about Carlos D. Interpol's too big for indie assholes.

these things are always too broad and get the details totally wrong. Like other people mentioned, no way would OM clerks preach the gospel of PFM at this point (maybe something a tier or two below it like Dusted or CMG), they would never give a shit about the Arctic Monkeys and they certainly would consider themselves stories above people like Carlos D.
not to mention the fact that when I've been there, the OM people have always been friendly and helpful (or civilized, at the least).

This video is confusing. Most of the music jokes are falling flat for me. And the "indie clerk asshole" stereotype doesn't really seem to have any connection to reality. That doesn't mean that it should now be off limits in comedy or anything, but we've been there too many times before for this to seem very clever in 2006.
The part where the guy starts speaking Japanese was pretty funny, though. Other than that I really think we could make a better video than this.

I doubt anyone has ever actually said anything like that out loud without being 100% sarcastic. Maybe shit like that has been written in bad reviews before but again, I don't see that line having anything to do with people in real life.
Better line: "Do you guys have the Garden State soundtrack? I didn't know if you would or not... it's kind of an
inn-die thing."

why do you people put up with this treatment when you are the CUSTOMER?
I'm lucky to live in a small city I guess but the one time I was given attitude at Rasputin in the Bay I picked up the 4 cds I was going to buy off the counter and chucked them at the guy who had smirked at me. fuck him and fuck them.
suprisingly the lil indie bitch had no interest in meeting me outside to talk about it away from the safe confines of his lil store.
Now that I'm older I don't care what any lil punk thinks of me when I'm at a store but If I was a younger person dealing with that shit I'd be glad Bestbuy will be carrying indie music and I'd be able to purchase it without being looked down on by a bearded fat 30-something that can't get laid
The Luscious Phil
Feb 27 2006, 01:53 PM
I dont think i have ever gotten whole lot of attitude from Indie clerks. the worst might have been Atomic Records in Milwaukee, i think they smirked cuz i bought D-Plan is terrified. but i was thirteen and could care less.
But i had nothing but great service from Rasputin's (they even were all excited that I was buying Akron/Family) and Ameoba.
and the dudes in Dr. Wax - Evanston are real nice if you go there a bunch.

You people actually get shit from record store clerks? Usually they are too smug to even say anything to me. If I think they're dicks I just tune these people out like the crap music they blare on the speakers. They are just there to ring up your purchases, not validate them.
DrJimmy
Feb 27 2006, 03:11 PM
i agree that they got the details wrong (probably to broaden the audience), but i still say those guys are funny.
and it's true that there are nice guys at OM, but there's at least one guy there (bearded, Jesus-looking guy) who is an aloof motherfucker.
Also, I think whoever called it "indie clerk assholes" set up some slightly false expectations. The piece is just called "Other Music."
