Que Bel Epoque and both the Salvador CD and 12"

WE CAN KILL THREE WITH ONE HERE. THE 2006 SALVADOR CD IS ESSENTIALLY AN RV GREATEST (FLOOR) HITS COMP. ITS GOT ALL FOUR TRACKS FROM THE QUE BEL EPOQUE AND SALVADOR 12S (SUPERIOR MIXES IN THE CASE OF QBE & LUGOM-IX). IT ALSO INCLUDES UNFLUG (WHICH DATES BACK TO 92 blink.gif ) AND THERE'S A REMIX OF A SENOR COCONUT TRACK THROWN IN FOR GOOD MEASURE.

RICARDO VILLALOBOS - SALVADOR (2006 CD)

TRACKLIST:
1 QUE BELLE EPOQUE 2006 (REMIX) (12:57)
2 TEMPURA (10:29)
3 SUESSE CHECQUES (7:17)
4 UNFLUG (6:51)
5 LAZER@PRESENT (7:31)
6 LOGOHITZ (7:51)
7 LUGOM-IX (REMIX)(11:18)
8 SEÑOR COCONUT ELECTROLATINO (RICARDO VILLALOBOS' 'LECKTRO CARIÑO MIX) (15:30)

CODE

LAZER @ PRESENT IS THE FIRST RV TRACK I HEARD SO IT ALWAYS HAS A SPECIAL PLACE (I BOUGHT THE QBE 12 AFTER HEARING HIS HORRORIST REMIX). ELECTROLATINO IS A GREAT EXAMPLE OF HIS REDUCTIVE/EXPANSIVE REMIX ETHOS AND, AS USUAL, IT ENDS UP SURPASSING THE SOURCE MATERIAL.

Man, these tracks are something else. Once you pop, the fun don't stop.

Why doesn't this dude DJ in America again? I wanna experience one of his infamous 5 hour sets. :[

EDIT: Nevermind. Found my answer upthread.

According to XLR8R, Villalobo's last visit to the US was 8 years ago.

Could you possibly upload For Disco Only?

Been looking for it for ages!

Thanks in advance.
vurt
I thought this bump was going to be about the Vasco EP.

Nice request. A distinctly trippy twosome and a personal favourite.

Bizarre yet oddly functional mutant funk - a ten second hard-tech interlude here, disembodied operatic wailing there, a completely incongruous yet strangely effective Philip Glass sample, totally mental time signatures, its got the lot:

Yeah, the samples are great. The guy's basically unstoppable.

I'm really beginning to like this guy. First track on the Ascho EP is fantabulous.

When I get particularly excited, I call him a genius. Achso and Alcachofa are of the greatest techno achievements I've ever heard.

Thanks for that.

I've got Villalobos' remix of Shackleton - Blood on my Hands (which topped the RA best remix of 2007 http://www.residentadvisor.net/feature-read.aspx?id=867) if anyone wants it.
TheTom
Pieter, do you happen to have Odd Machine - We Brought Our Friends? (it was a collaboration between Villalobos and Tobias Freund, for anyone that didn't know)
Bruegs
Please, call me Bruegel.

When I bought this I didn't really get it but returning to it a few months later it clicked. The first few minutes of To Learn More are like an opiated variety of musique concrète and the vocal sample reminds me of the one used by Orbital on Philosophy by Numbers. As the layers build it gets progressively more trippy and sort of shoots its load at the end. The title tracks got some beautiful tribal timbres and a percolating, swampy feel.

Never got round to upping this. Haven't got much time to say anything about it. Needless to say it’s the elongated tripulations you would expect:

Ricardo Villalobos - Vasco Pt.1

Tracklisting:
A Minimoonstar (13:10)
B Minimoonstar (Shackleton Remix) (9:46)
C Electonic Water (12:57)
D Electonic Water (San Proper's 'It Ate My Quarter' Mix) (8:23)

Heart... throbbing... Will grab this the instant I get home. Cheers, Bruegel.
Bruegs
Vurt, you will probably really like Flora & Fauna, the Eulberg album Im in the process of upping to the Now Playing thread.

There was something else I meant to rec to you too but its temporarily left my mind.

Eulberg is someone I've always meant to check out, so thanks again! Any recommendations of yours are always welcome, whenever you remember them.
Bruegs
It came back to me. The last two STL 12's are very good. Genuinely minimal but really infectious deep house. Simple, yet slightly unsettling melodies. Ill get em up some time.
TheTom
Bruegel

Cheers heaps for your uploads. Thanks to you I'm filling in the gaps of my Villalobos collection.

And holy fuck, im loving Minimoonstar SOOO much.

Trying not to be a pain (and this'll be the last one for a while, I promise...), could you upload Alcachofa Tools?

Thanks.
Bruegs
If you've got the cd version of Alcachofa you've got 2/3rds of Alcachofa Tools because Fools Garden (Black Conga) and Waiworinao appear on that. Tools was put out so that djs could have vinyl versions of all the Alcachofa tracks.

Here is the third track on Tools:

Ricardo Villalobos - Bach to Back

Alcachofa is still his best full-length by my reckoning.
TheTom
Cheers, that was the track i was after!
TheTom
Has Vasco EP Part 2 been released yet?

I've seen reviews of it popping up in various places.
Bruegs
Yeah, part 2 is out. It just has amazordum and a Baby Ford remix of the same track.

The Vasco 1+2 CD should be upon us soon. That's got the full 30min+ minimoonstar session, longer edits of electronic water and amazordrum and a new track called skinfummel. It was supposed to come out on the 8th but still no sign. There is a promo floating about but its just 5 minute edits sad.gif
TheTom
Well, I'm surprised it hasn't been uploaded ANYwhere yet. only those promotional edits.
John_K
Prior to this thread, was only really aware of the Fabric release and what I had read in Wire.

Been grabbing bits and pieces tonight, and playing Salvador at the moment - this is wonderful...
TheTom
Found it! Note: i am not the uploader of this.

Awesome. 31:44.

EDIT: Listening to this with my kids while watching iTunes visualization and the early reviews are in:
"It sounds like creepy in the jungle music"
"It sounds like aliens built it"

I think they have a future with Pitchfork

Great comments. I love playing music to the young, as their opinions are uncoloured by journalistic cliché or assumption.
TheTom
Could someone please re-up this to rapidshare, or something similar? My computer always refuses to connect to mediafire...

Cheers.
TheTom
Well, i exaggerate. Suddenly, mediafire refuses to work on my computer for some reason.
TheTom
Dont worry, mediafire was down.

Cheers Burz!
