So I'm in Rite Aid last weekend and hear a Sufjan Stevens song. That was really, really strange. I haven't listened to Illinoise in forever, but I think it was Casimir Pulaski Day.

I actually heard a Muzak-version of Erasure's "Respect" at my old office job more than 10 years ago.

Not necesarily weird, but during the summer the Piggly Wiggly I worked at decided to play this amazing 70's/80's station. We would hear tons of New Order, Joy Division, early Talk Talk, and my favorite was whenever they played "Rock Lobster."
Customers would always walk around confused during that song.

I think there was a thread on this not long ago.
I heard Arcade Fire in JC Penney a few months back, and last week heard the Shins at Bed Bath & Beyond.

I heard Pearl Jam's cover of "Leaving Here" at the grocery store once. Which isn't horribly weird, but it's really pretty obscure.

Either an Acoustic Guitar & Flute version of Bob Marley's "Redemption Song" or the Muzak version of George Harrison's "Piggies:"
Have you seen the little piggies
Crawling in the dirt
And for all the little piggies
Life is getting worse
Always having dirt to play around in.

Not at all obscure, but everything seems totally ridiculous whenever "Stairway to Heaven" gets played at a retail store.
There's a little corner store in my hood run by this nice 50-something Indian dude. I went in one day and Slayer's "South of Heaven" was playing. Then I was in there a couple of days ago and I heard the Pointer Sisters. Weird.

back home I work in a grocery store and they throw in an odd choice once in a while. Normally it's just your typical soft mom rock, but then I heard "Fake Empire" by The National one day and it blew my mind.
I think I've posted about this before, too.

I heard The National's "Fake Empire" at Lowe's Home Improvement a few weeks ago.
Never expected that to happen in public, unless I was heavily medicated.

I heard it at King's Island amusement park blaring over the Action Zone section of the park a couple weeks ago. Surreal, for sure.

When I was working at Borders about 2 years ago, I put on the Postal Service and then from the other side of the room, some guy yells "Yeah! Turn it up, man!"
I'm pretty sure that was the last time I played that album there.

Heard BOTH bands AND Andrew Bird two weeks back in the Ikea in ATL. I laughed when it came on and then got kind of worried.

Yesterday I had to go to the doctor (freaking allergies!)...as I walk in, "I Wanna Be Sedated" by the Ramones is playing. I laughed my freaking head off
