my shit is definitely hijacked! help?
i haven't been able to even open up internet explorer for months now. it hasn't really been a big issue because i use mozilla anyway, but now i need to use IE to apply for student loans. some government sites only allow IE.
i already have ad-aware and spybot search and destroy. no problems being detected.
what can i do? is it safe to simply re-install internet explorer? i tried doing windows update and i'm pretty sure i have all of the service packs.
anybody good with this kind of stuff? wakingrufus? you out there?

I'd say to just try and re-install IE. Considering you use Firefox most of the time, you shouldn't have much to lose by doing so, right?
Either that, or just get your shit done in a computer lab or a library.

That's my suggestion as well. Using a library computer will be less frustrating.

If you're using Mozilla, you may have a corrupted user file. The only way I've ever fixed that is to uninstall Mozilla and re-install.

You're totally f*cked in the d*ck, man. If your Mozilla isn't quantifying with your coagulated hyperflux compacity then the only solution is to skankify your sonic reducer chips, dude...man, I've heard about this kind of stuff before but wouldn't wish it upon anybody. My condolensces...

While I agree with the above diagnosis, it might also be wise to check the connection on the flux capacitor. That was my problem a while back--now time travel's a breeze...huh,
ohhh Internet Explorer! Sorry, as you were.

Weird. You can try a system restore to go back to a date that your IE did actually work.
What happens when you double click on IE?
Here's another thing to try. Double click on a folder you have on the desktop. In the "Address" bar, type in an internet address. What happens?
Lastly, download
Hijack This! from here, run it, and post your results. I'm not guarnteeing I can find anything, but it'll give us a better look into what's going on with your registry.

nothing happens when i double click. nothing.
i've already used the address bar in explorer to go to a website and it works, but if i click a link a second window will not open and sometimes just clicking a link (that would open a new window) will make everything crash.
i'll try the hijack this thing...

That has happened to me before, and I never did figure out what the problem was. I went to a gazillion tech boards, and nobody had the answer. IIRC, a system restore made things right again. Barring that, it'll have to be a reinstall.

reinstall IE only, if you don't have a cracked version of Windows you shouldn't have a problem with that. In the meantime I'd say go the Library route to get your Financial Aid info in.

sorry to bump and old thread but i was just curious about something and maybe someone can give me a bit of insight. it's not really a problem......but! i'm using firefox when i'm on the board. there are certain posters who's avatars slow down my browser. they don't have any animation in them or anything. but when pinkerton, andy ant and Ballbag have posts on a page my browser really slows down while scrolling the page.
anyone have the same problem or know why this happens. it's more of a pain in the ass.

What's their avatar file size compared to others?
I've been trying Firefox off & on for about a month and I think it's way slow & quirky. I keep coming back to Netscape, which hasn't been updated for Mac in a couple of years and is also quirky. Safari is slow, & I just basically hate IE. What else is out there?

I use Firefox on Mac and PC and I haven't noticed any speed issues with Firefox browsing this board. I go back & forth between IE and Firefox, depending on what computer I'm using, but I prefer Firefox, especially for its tabbed browsing (although I think the latest incarnation of IE will have this feature, too.) I don't like Safari, though.

Is the board running slowly or is it just me? My computer sucks ass, so I wouldn't be surprised if it was my computer, though no other site runs as slowly and haltingly as this one does lately.

Post that Hijack This! log, it's going to give the most information about what's going on. Also, double click internet explorer then hit ctrl + alt+ delete. Click the processes tab and see if you can find iexplore.exe in the list of running programs. Another thing worth checking out is seeing if IE will working when you're booted in safe mode with networking (restart you computer and when the BIOS screen appears start tapping F8, a menu should appear with options like boot normally, safe mode, etc. Choosing safe mode with networking from the list).
