Full Version: What was the name of that club that used to be near the Vic?

Hey, there used to be this music club near the Vic that was a bowling alley as well (I think). It had a decent sized music room and a ridiculously large bar area. It was a great place to see a show and I believe it's gone now.

Anyone remember the name, because I can't and I really need to soon?

Thanks in advance!

Bottom Lounge?? if so, that place was shit

I don't think Bottom Lounge/Lakeview Links was, or had, a bowling alley.
Uncle Remus
Bottom Lounge, yeah. I only saw a couple shows there, but I liked the place.

Thanks!

Bottom Lounge was one of the best sounding venues in the city. Fuck the CTA.

You might be getting Bottom Lounge and the Fireside confused as far as the bowling alley thing goes, but yeah- Bottom Lounge was great. Shame that place is no more.

I think it was the Lakeview Links thing that made me, for whatever reason, think of bowling. I guess I assumed it had been a bowling alley. But yeah, the Fireside is no more, too right? Saw some shows there and, man that was a weird place for a show.

Sure wasn't the Avalon club (now a haircut/tanning place) due the stairs. Don't know.

That's what I was thinking too. It was on the second floor and had kind of an odd shape. I believe there were two stages at opposite sides of the club.

Yeah Fireside doesn't do shows anymore for some reason- just bowling now. Never really heard the straight story on that. Loved seeing shows there in high school, but I don't think I've ever seen worse bathrooms or general upkeep in a venue. Guess that was 'punk' though.

That place was tiny, but narrow. Really intimate. I liked it.

bottom lounge - when it was lakeview links had putting/mini golf upstairs and I believe a couple of bowling lanes maybe back in the 80's
new bottom lounge will be open soon, been there a few times, walls are up, rooms are built, should be sometime between halloween and new years, 2 venues, 300 & 750, all ages, 18+, 21+ and one of the new owners is Mike from Delilahs, so the bar should be the best in the city.
-
fireside bowl - owner hated kids and music, went back to bowling mostly with the exception of a few sub par shows
back in the day we did Modest Mouse, Blonde Redhead, At The Drive In, Jimmy Eat World, Neurosis and a bunch of bad ska shows.
check out youtube, search "fireside bowl", lots of great stuff.

Yeah, I was in a bowling league there during the spring and occasionally they would have shows. Hammer still hates kids and music, fwiw.

Yeah, but it's going to be downtown somewhere, isn't it? That totally blows. Nobody lives downtown and parking is a bitch for people from outside the city. Correct me if I'm wrong. I hope I'm wrong.

I thought this thread was going to be about the Avalon, which appropriately enough turned into a tanning salon.
Fun place, in it's own awful way. I saw Ace Frehley, Helmet, and quite a few local bands who probably couldn't make the cut at the Elbo Room or Thurston's.

Like mine! Played that room in '91 or so. One of the friends of the band I was in at the time (dude was easily 20 years my senior) said he saw Mingus play there back in the day...I'm guessing in the 70s at some point. Not sure if the club would have been the Avalon back then.
