I'm new here, so perhaps this topic has been discussed before, but I was just wondering what movies people were looking forward to most in 2006.

For me:
V for Vendetta - http://www.apple.com/trailers/wb/v_for_vendetta/hd/
and Brick - http://www.apple.com/trailers/focus_features/brick/hd
and Special - http://www.specialthemovie.com/trailer_large.html

Watch the Special trailer, it's very much worth it.

I'll probably see all of these at some point, but there's not one single title here that inspires confidence. Hopefully there will be one or two surprise standouts in here.

Actually, I've been following the production of this movie since the start. And although I really want it to be great....it looks like it's going to be an absolute catastrophe. It's had script/director/actor/design/everything problems from it's very beginning. Now, while that doesn't guarantee a bad film, it's certainly not a good sign.

Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny

Totally forgot this was coming out, but it looks really awesome. I'll see it probably opening day.

QUOTE(Paul @ Mar 4 2006, 10:32 AM)

Strangers With Candy (assuming it actually gets released)

I read it was for sure getting released. Definitely want to see it, as well.

Clerks II

a friend of mine went to nyc to see this last week. she won a contest or was chosen from a board, something. anyway, this is her very vague description of the movie:

QUOTE
So me and 59 other people, along with Brian O'Halloran (Dante from "Clerks/2"), Joe Quesada from Marvel Comics, Bryan Johnson, Walt Flanagan (the latter two are familiar only to VA fans, I reckon), and the Weinstein Company's own Harvey Weinstein (much smaller than I would have imagined--I guess I had him painted up in my head as this MASSIVE MAN OF MONEY AND POWER AND :: GRRRR HARVEY SMASH!!! :smile.gif, checked out Kevin's next flick and, without giving anything away (plus the whole NON-DISCLOSURE AGREEMENT I signed), it's VERY funny, it's delightfully and unrepentantly vulgar, and it also nails that over-30 angst of "Where in the FUCK did my twenties go and how in the HELL did I get where I'm at now??" I even welled a bit towards the end.

* The Da Vinci Code

This is going to be horrendous. Between Hanks mullet and the idea that he's going to get his grubby gumps all over Amelie, I can't expect this to be tolerable.
Mitchell
I'd rather it was laughingly awful then being OK to be honest.
worrywort
Terry Zwigoff's Art School Confidential
trailer looks, meh

Richard Kelly's Southland Tales
Donnie Darko director's sophomore effort

Darren Aronofsky's The Fountain

oh yeah and a couple from music video directors
Michel Gondry's Master of Space and Time
Jonathan Dayton & Valerie Faris' Little Miss Sunshine
Uncle Remus
I guess (if they're all due this year):

Jackass 2
X-Men III
Superman Returns
Clerks 2
Sin City 2
Casino Royale
that new movie by Hustle & Flow's director Craig Brewer
and that Scorsese flick with Damon/DiCaprio and someone else...

I haven't seen or read much about what's due this year, however.
Mitchell
Oh yeah the Scorsese remake of Infernal Affairs.
worrywort
... and Running with Scissors
Bob Loblaw
The Devil and Daniel Johnston looks really cool.

Movie I would most like to see at the Coldwater Drive-In Theater: Night Watch

I know I'll be in the minority on this one, but I'm very interested in seeing Apocalypto.

Other upcoming movies I haven't seen listed so far:
Charlie Wilson's War (might be 2007)
Flags Of Our Fathers
The Notorious Bettie Page
Paper Man
Evan Almighty
Rambo 4 (the unintentional comedy factor will be off the charts)
Amarillo Slim

Is it just me or is there ZERO buzz about the Libertine, which comes out in five days? For a movie with a huge star like Depp and a nearly NC-17 rating, you'd think you'd hear something.

That trailer for Special was off the fucking hook. Looks like a Kaufmann screenplay. Speaking of old Charlie, what is he working on now?

Oh god I can't wait for "There Will Be Blood/Oil" from mr. Anderson. I'm kinda scared though cause it is an adaptation from a previous writting. I've never read the original text but Magnolia and Boogie Nights are two of my favorite movies of all time and I dont know what to expect. PDL was damn good too but not to the caliber of those. We'll see

I'm waiting for Marie-Antoinette too, the trailor is kinda eh but her past two movies were damn fine pictures.

I haven't been into the movie scene latly, kinda got side tracked.

without_opinion
marie-antoinette does look like it could be promising.

i'm geeked about seeing V for Vendetta, might go check it out at the IMAX. remember remember the 5th of november

and X-men 3 i'm pretty excited for.

also will ferrell's "Stranger Than Fiction" -- An IRS auditor suddenly finds himself the subject of narration only he can hear: narration that begins to affect his entire life, from his work, to his love-interest, to his death.

I saw the trailer for this over the winter, and haven't heard a word on it since. It looks like a geniusly funny idea, but if there's this much holdup, it will probably be a dud.

He was pushing it hard last week on the Nickelodeon Kid's Choice Awards.

for the last two years, i've gotten together with a friend of mine from detroit, drank, and went to a shit movie. two years ago, it was "garfield" followed by a wilco show. last year it was "herbie: fully loaded" prior to a trip to a strip club (we went at 11.30am and found a theater that served beer! delicious!).

this year...

GARFIELD 2: A TALE OF TWO KITTIES!

you see, jon (breckin meyer) goes to london and odie and garfield follow. naturally, garfield gets mistaken for a rich cat that is set to inherit a castle or something. here's who's on board for this 90-minute turd:

-the chick who played the secretary in the uk version of "the office"
-ian abercrombie (mr. pitt from seinfeld)
-tim curry (i hope he plays a gay person!)
-bill murray as the voice of garfield (again!)
-jennifer love hewitt (again!)

i guess JLH isn't featured as promintely in this one since she was doing that "ghost whisperer" show on CBS. still, though, i'm looking forward to june 23rd when GARFIELD 2 hits theaters. and then i'll go to a strip club.

I really want to see Superman fail. I've never like Superman, even as a Kid. His costume sucks, his powers are boring...just never did it for me.

So Murray still likes money--and JLH stays off the pole for another six months.

yeah, pretty much. i'm hoping for that reported playboy issue to come out and coinside with the release of "garfield 2." the whole pictorial would be based around nude JLH and garfield. like having JLH eat a lot of lasagna (and get it on her tits), have JLH hate mondays (and not get out of bed...'cuz she's naked) and have JLH kick a dog that looks like odie off a table (with heels. oh, and she'd be naked, too).

I understand that he does the Capote voice the whole movie, so Cruise has no choice but to kill him. It's getting standing ovations.

Not really excited about the movie, and I never understood the BP craze and/or rediscovery, but holy hell has Gretchen Mol disappeared into this role:

^ This movie looks like it will absolutely kick ass, which is a good thing, because im a huge SH fan. The character design looks gloriously disturbing, just like it should. Check out the rest of the character posters here.
