Malky-poo?
Dreadful title. Why not just call it Wolf Canyon Avenue or something.

He played guitar on Tanglewood Numbers. And he was fucking great.
Psyched for this album.

Been listening to American Water all day. Fantastic. I'm really excited for this. Are the albums before it any good?(Natural Bridge, etc)

Natural Bridge is my favorite Joos record. By far. "We saw BB King on General Hospital."

Pretty great Berman interview on Pitchfork; mostly about the new record. Sounds like more of a positive jam.

so after a listen to the new disc on the el this morning, i can safely say i see myself liking this for some time
it's somewhere between the overall perfection of American Water and the more poppy sensibility of Tanglewood Numbers i felt.
the back half of this thing especially kills. "San Fransisco BC" is definitely the album's centerpiece

he's not on this one, it was recorded with Berman's touring band. it seems Malkmus, likes to do every other Jews album.

So Berman really changed his voice since American Water. He kinda croons now. I'm so used to his mumbling that it's a bit distracting at first. His tired way of talking really aided in the biting humor of his lyricism imo. I know he's moved on and is making more serious work, but I didn't care for the last album too much. This one seems a step in a better direction.
The first track could be a Neil Diamond song, ala "I Am I Said" It's not an insult, Berman would probably be flattered.

I'm a big Silver Jews fan but this is doing nothing for me. This sounds totally phoned in and uninspired to me. Very disappointing.

I'm not sure yet. On first listen it sounds much more produced, which is a little off-putting.
May grow on me though.

I have no idea what's wrong with the taste on this board sometimes. This album is towering.
I thought Malkmus had finally caught up to Berman with Real Emotional Trash; nope, keep at it Steve.

I'll say that Malkmus's new album is finally in a league with Silver Jews' stuff, but it's the first and only one so far that is. Pig Lib is one of *thee* worst albums by a talented artist that I've ever heard (cf. Pixies' Bossanova)--the middle of that album is completely unlistenable. Face the Truth was an improvement, but still sub-Jews' quality.

solo Malkmus never really could compare to Silver Jews stuff. Silver Jews are just lightyears better I would say. I haven't heard the new Malkmus, but what I've heard of his can't come even close to American Water.
"Suffering Jukebox" is now my new favorite song off this album. Really like the female chorus. It's so good.

Saw the Silver Jews last night. They are seriously not compelling. I'm not the biggest fan anyway, but I left early out of sheer boredom. The opening band was awesome though. Monotonix - anyone seem them? Blow you away badass live show.
