Paul
All right everyone, the time has finally come and the End Of Year polls are opening up.

Singles Lists are due Sunday December 16. There aren't any exceptions to that. You've got about three weeks, so there shouldn't be any problems with people not having enough notice. Also, let me know when you submit your list if you are interested in writing blurbs for the top 40 singles.

Just to go through the rules again:

-You can vote for as few as five 2007 singles or as many as one hundred 2007 singles.

-Singles include:
1. Songs with released 7 or 12" (or new for 2007, clearly identified digital single release) singles bearing their name
2. EPs of both 5 songs and 22 minutes less (if either is greater, than it is eligible for the albums list)
3. Songs with a video (assuming not live, and assuming the artist didn't make one for every song on the album)
4. Songs that have charted on any major US or UK chart (except for download)

-Voting for a single can include B-Sides and Remixes of the song on the same vote.

-To submit your list, either post it in the thread or PM it to me. Any list posted in this thread in countdown form will be considered a final list. If you need to make a change once your list is submitted, you can only swap one single out to replace with another.

-2006 vs. 2007 eligibility is broken down as follows--if you can make a case for it being 2007, you can vote for it. So
that includes singles released in your country for the first time in 2007, singles that didn't receive wide exposure or peak on the charts until 2007, or singles that were released in Dec. 2006 and didn't have enough time to sink in before voting last year.

-Finally, nothing that was on our Top 100 Singles of 2006 list is eligible. You can not, under any circumstances vote for anything that made the top 100 singles last year. Just so you know, these 100 singles are:

If you're unsure that a song is a single, check rateyourmusic, discogs, or wikipedia. Also, we're had a bunch of single suggestion threads to take a look at for ideas (although I would always double check somewhere else to make sure that it really counts as a single just to be sure).

Also, one last thing I just want to remind everyone about. If there is a single that you're really passionate about but not many others know of it, don't wait until we start the countdown to complain about it not being higher. Use this thread to make sure that everyone else is made aware of it before it is too late to vote.

That should be everything. You can get started with the questions, voting, and fishing.

Surprising in that it's the best but least likely choice.

Thanks for doing some research, Paul. I just saw it in MV's thread, so assumed it was fair game.

Keeping an iTunes playlist as the year goes on makes this shit so much easier. Sadly, I accidentally screwed up my list when I was using mp3gain to normalize my library's volume. So now I need to start from scratch (or at least from a few weeks ago, as I made in the pimping thread).

In other news: the more you listen to Fascination by Alphabeat, the more you love it.

Should we be taking singles and eps into account in the same manner? That is, should I be voting based on the single as a song, or as an entity, with the b-sides and whatnot taken into equal consideration? What do you all do?
Twilight
The single as a song. B-Sides are an added bonus.

Like Twilight said, the b-sides are a bonus onto the single. However, in some cases people have voted specifically for a b-side or remix as opposed to the a-side, so just know that you can do that but the vote will technically go to the a-side. When we do the countdown in a couple of weeks, any b-sides or remixes that were voted for along with the a-sides will be listed and hopefully fished.

"Long Walk Home" and "Radio Nowhere" are the two from Magic.

no...just saw a review of Girls on Billboard in the singles section. You sure on that? I'm reading in multiple place that it's been released as a single in Europe and that a video has been shot.

Wikipedia, RYM and Disgocs have got nothing. Nothing on Amazon.com or co.uk physically.

Well, I'm sticking to it for now. Maybe I can find official news. That would suck.

Good lord! Remixes! Original versions! LoL!!!

i may attempt a singles list this year actually, but i'll have to wait until closer to the deadline after people have posted their lists to know what is and isn't a single.

The Boss gave fans what they wanted when he announced his return to high-energy rock with loud, angry guitars in "Radio Nowhere." Almost experimental by Springsteen standards, the second single from No. 1 album "Magic" surprises with a rich, symphonic pop sound that channels the Beach Boys. Sending a sunny melody over layered keyboards, bells and strings, "Girls in Their Summer Clothes" is the most upbeat track on the new disc, with an ambitious "Pet Sounds" arrangement and rasp-free vocals, sung with a hint of nostalgia. In the old days, a Springsteen character turned heads on a breezy walk through town, but now, "In the cool of the evening light, the girls in their summer clothes pass me by." —Sven Philipp

I edited mine...kept Girls at one but forgot about Is There A Ghost which ranked high thus bumping Kanye off the top 25. Oh well.

Yeah I've read that but there is no reference to it anywhere else (Springsteen's website, Columbia Records) and if it was a single it's not the second one anyway. I'm not saying it isn't on the brink of being pushed to radio play but that would more than likely make it a 2008 single. I can't even find a press release that says it's being promoted on iTunes.

Well, I'm keeping the list as is. It's too good a song and too close to me and maybe it'll drop in the next two weeks. ha....

Unless this is some bootleg...looks like a single to me?! Thanks El.

Well if that's real then it should be possible to find a record label number wink.gif

God, I hate the whole concept of "singles lists". I mean this is OBVIOUSLY being marketed as a single. People buy SONGS from itunes. The radio plays songs that are promoted. Billboard doesn't make up the concept. This song is being pushed to AAA radio, and rightfully so. It IS a single, as the concept exists today. IF it doesn't count, we should just stop making these stupid lists. ugh.

While I agree mostly with what you say I disagree completely that is "OBVIOUSLY being marketed as a single".
