couldn't find this anywhere else, so thought i'd start it.
i will post some stuff soon.
in the mean time:

does anyone have that song that plays during the end of studio 60's christmas album? pretenders?

thanks.
Rob Gordon
need a little clarification. You mean the Studio 60 Christmas episode? The one with all the New Orleans jazz on it? Don't remember which Pretenders song was played at the end. Figure it's either 2000 Miles or Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas.

Alright Still
Does anyone know the name of the Weepies song played on the Penny's Christmas commercial? Or is it just a Deb solo song?

Totally essential, indeed -- I just loaded these two albums onto to the office iPod, along with James Browns' Very Funky Xmas and a Johnny Cash Xmas. I used to have a Punk Rock Xmas (w/ Fear's "Fuck Christmas") when I was a teenager, and also remember that one fondly.
b*derty
the pretenders song is 2000 miles. and fyi, it also plays at banana republic during this holiday season. so if anyone has it i'd be in debt to you. like i was to the person last year who posted 'merry christmas eve'

Man, I need to make a few mixes for my minion tonight, otherwise the next 25 work days will consist of the same dozen songs the xmas radio station has in constant rotation at this time of year.

In related holiday-music news:

From the Yule Log wiki:

In November of 2007, the Power Metal band DragonForce announced they would be releasing their own edition of the Yule Log program on DVD for the Christmas season. Their iteration is rumored to include several pyrotechnic effects occurring on a 723 minute loop, much longer than the traditional 30. The standard 3-4 log setup will also be replaced by setting fire to a small section of forest outside of drummer Dave Mackintosh's hometown of Glasgow Scotland as earlier attempts to film a fire consuming a 300 acre section of redwood forest in North Carolina met with extreme opposition. Guitarist Sam Totman is rumoured to have stated after a recent show, though all accounts say he seemed to be extremely intoxicated at the time, that quote "It will be the best damn holiday special yet!" presumably in reference to the formentioned DVD release.

God, I hope this is true.

It WAS "...Merry Little Christmas," but isn't that really more a Chrissie Hynde solo joint from A Very Special Christmas? O/c, by the mid 80s, they'd stopped being anything more than Chrissie's backing band, anyway, so it's amoot point. But in answer to the original question, I think you can get it on that album I just mentioned - the one with the Keith Harring cover.

BandAid - Do They Know it's Christmas? I love this song; don'tcare if it's dated or not.

Elvis' Christmas Album Gotta have at least ONE King at Xmas.

A Very Special Chrstmas Vol I - Still the best of the series. Not every son's great, but madonna's version of "Santa Baby" is pretty awesome, and I love U2's "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)"

Obviously, the Phil Spector record is outstanding

Otis Redding's White Christmas/ Merry Christmas Baby, though out of print, is worth having, although I believe you can get both singles on Rhino's double disc best of.

And no Xmas is complete without The Kinks' "Father Christmas."

Gracias.

I took a lot of hell for requesting a Shawn Colvin song - thanks for dulling the blow just a bit.

Not sure who would bother to break balls over a Christmas song by anyone, but you're welcome.

I endlessly ridicule anyone mentioning Sufjan's Xmas stuff, so there's that.

Figured I'd throw this one up here:

Brad Stirtz - Christmas Vibes

Brad was a professor of mine in college. He's a tremendously talented percussionist, playing vibes here (uh, obviously).

The hook here, for some of you, might be that the drummer on this recording is none other than Mark Walker (who, uh, played with the Smashing Pumpkins, among many others...I once lost a gig to Mark, but that's another story). Chicago jazz cats will know the bass player on this one--Larry Kohut. No shortage of chops on this one.

ANYWAY, this works great as background music, due to it's instrumental jazz nature. Your folks will love it. Enjoy.

What's the deal with that? I don't have anything against Shawn. ph34r.gif
I know she's a bit lightweight. ElC was just ripping on her in a post too.

Damn norton! You're an Xmas music maniac. That's quite a list.
Look forward to the '07 mix. I had no idea Alex Chilton had a Christmas song.

I love me some Christmas music. wink.gif

Here's the Alex Chilton tune for anyone that's interested ...
